Funny to start out this way but my nighttime dreams are evident of what I have been doing since my last entry. This week alone I had a couple of dreams surrounding my work at The Magdalene Centre. No doubt that it is a result of the intensity of the past two weeks. For those of you who do not know, my morning supervisor has been on a well deserved holiday for ten full work days now and will not return until the day after Easter holidays. This means that I have been running the emergency assistance program with the help of volunteer staff members. For the most part, things have gone well but there were also several tough client cases to manage. Some of the highlights include not having electricity and a lack of volunteer ... read more

Okay ya’ll, so do to a combination of procrastination, a busy schedule, computer flu, my own flu and just plain laziness it’s been over a month since my last blog so here goes….Let’s start with work and my plans, which have changed quite a bit. I will not make it back to Texas for graduation in May as I had originally intended, there is too much to explore here and too slim a possibility I will ever have this opportunity again. All of the interesting new faces I have seen, the people I have encountered and the stories I have heard have inspired me to see as much as I can, not only of Oz but the world. As I mentioned in my previous blog, my supervisor had casually asked about my interest in future ... read more

Tasmania was beautiful but Kangaroo Island is a unique place. I loved it! Kangaroo Island, otherwise know as KI is the third largest island off the Australia mainland. It was uninhabited when it was discovered in 1802 by an English explorer named Matthew Flinders. The Australian Sea Lion and the New Zealand Fur Seals have breeding colonies all along the South Coast. Little Penguins are also found around most coastlines. The only thing I have to whinge about is the drinking water-it was yucky! Day 1- I had an early Saturday morning (5:45 am) walk down to the bus terminal in the city. The bus ride to the ferry was almost 2 hours and I had no idea it would take so long. Anyhow, the ferry ride wasn’t too bad. The weather was a little nasty ... read more

This week we had to take the bus to Flinders Uni on two separate occasions: once for a Mandatory Reporting Meeting (a requirement for child welfare in the state of SA) and again for a field seminar with students from Norway. Both of these visits to Flinders were very exhausting since our cohort has had ongoing difficulties with the faculty and procedures of the Uni. Amber, Doran and I headed off to Montefiore Hill for some “ice blocking” Saturday. Yes, that’s right-ice blocking. I was introduced to the summer activity in Colorado a couple years ago. A church in the city transported us to the Montefiore Hill so we could give it a go. It was pretty fun except for the part where I almost hit a tree. Fortunately, I was able to maneuver my way ... read more

I spent most of last week and weekend resting. Kameron was crook during the week (and still recovering) so we tried to keep our activity level to a minimum especially since it was her birthday. I enjoyed the change of pace and we were able to celebrate Kameron’s birthday with a nice dinner at Bin 272 (or some number like that) on Rundle Street. I had calamari and it was delicious (thanks for reminding me to taste test the fresh seafood here, dad)! I spent Valentines Day making chocolate covered strawberries (the strawberries from Hahndorf with Cadbury’s white chocolate-Cadbury’s is the chocolate of choice here)…just what the doctor, I mean… chemist ordered for Kameron’s sickness. I was also fortunate to have a taste of Hershey Kisses and conversation hearts on Valentines Day. My supervisor had a ... read more
