Yet another blog campers!!!
On Friday morning we were collected by John (Anton's mum's cousin's husband!!) from our hostel in Maroochydore and taken to their house in Pomona. Bea (Del's cousin) and John live a beautiful house set on 6 acres of land! John showed us around the house whilst Bea was at work and then we had a walk around the grounds - they even have their own creek and cottage! John and Bea's daughter, Julia, and her family were living in the cottage whilst trying to save some money. We were in awe of the size of their house and the amount of space that they had. I think they would get a culture shock having to live in our semi-detached and terraced houses! John made us a sandwich for lunch and then his daughter Julia came home with her two children, Josephine (4) and Edith (3). Edith really took to Anton, which Julia said was not like her. Bea came home late afternoon, Julia went out for a drink with her husband's (Mark) work collegues and then Craig (Bea and John's son) came over with his wife, Michelle, and three children, Eva (7), Rozalee (4) and baby
James (3weeks!). The children played whilst we chatted about our trip and then the boys went to another part of the house for a homebrew beer and the girls had a wine and a girly chat. It was so lovely to be around the children and hold baby James, as we both really miss our nieces and nephews. Craig and his family left before dinner and then Julia and Mark returned from their drinks for a BBQ, Anton helped John to cook it and we ate inside as it was quite chilly that evening. We spent the evening chatting around the table and it felt like we were part of the family.
We had a lovely nights sleep - it was like staying in a five star hotel compared to the hostels! - and we spent the morning booking our bus and hostels up to Sydney, as everything is getting booked up close to Christmas. After lunch, Bea drove Anton and I to visit Craig and his family and showed us their house. Again it was so spacious and had lots of land. The girls were busy decorating their Christmas tree and it had a lot of decorations around
the middle and not so much at the top!! We had a cup of tea and I had another hold of the baby (for a little fix) and then we drove back to Bea and John's to pack the car for a drive to Bribie Island to see Bea's sister, Dot. Bribie was about an hour away and we arrived at Dot's apartment around dinner time. She had arranged for us to have dinner in the local RSL (a bit like our Royal British Legion but much brighter and newer). We quickly changed and headed out but when we got there, Anton was told he needed a collar, which he didn't have! Luckily they had a spare shirt behind that they loaned to Anton for $5 dollars; it was a little tight and he looked a bit like the hulk ready to burst out of his clothes! This was our first meal in a restaurant, so we were very excited! Anton chose a steak and kidney pie whilst I went for a mild cocunut curry; both were delicious and we were very spoilt as John paid the bill and would allow us to give him any money. After dinner, Dot
took us to play the pokies (gambling machines) in the RSL club. Anton and I put a dollar in these machines but had no idea how to play them and promptly lost our dollars. Dot seemed to know what she was doing but couldn't really explain to Anton I how to play; goodness knows how we'll do in Vegas!! When we got back to Dot's apartment, she insisted that John and Bea use her room and Anton and I use the spare room and she was going to sleep on the sofa. We insisted that we sleep on the floor but she was having none of it! We were feeling very humbled by everyones kind generosity!
The next morning we had a drive around Bribie Island and down to the beach; it was so lovely and we wished we could have stayed longer. Late morning we left Dot and drove down to a place called Wellington Point, near Brisbane, to stay with Dot's son, Shane and his wife, Glenda.
Lots of love to you all, we miss you xxxx
Lots of kisses to Thomas, Lauren, Erin, George, Niah, Evie, Matilda, Isaac and our Jonnie xxxxxxxxx
