Dictated by Will-typed by his Mum Last Saturday we got to Yeppoon. Today Mum and Dad are taking Grace and I to town. I got a slushi and Grace and Dad got an ice cream and Mum got a coffee. They took me to the skate park. I was going really fast but I could just never land the tail whip off the jump. We also went fishing in the morning at the beach. We used prawns for bait. I learned how to bait the hook by myself. Every minute, I would catch a fish. They were sand whitings. They were about 6 inches long. I caught 6. Dad caught 7, Grace caught 3 and Mum caught 1. There was a dead sting ray on the beach. I three days we will be in Noosa and ... read more

Three months on the road is getting very close now and with the goal I set myself being 4months, it looks like I will do this with ease (hmmm did I just jinx myself???) I’m now in a town called Yeppoon, which many may never have heard of and to tell you the truth you aren't missing a whole lot. Don't get me wrong, this is a pretty little beachside town but it seriously lacks something and I can’t quite put my finger on it. Sure it’s possible my opinion was marred somewhat by the most disgusting fish and chips I’ve ever had in Cooee Bay (great Aussie name though) or maybe it’s from the lack lustre expressions on the faces of disinterested travellers I have met here. Whatever the case, there’s a good chance I ... read more

We were up and on the road really early this morning as we had a lot of km's to make. But we weren't far out of town when mom and dad started to wonder about the whereabouts of their camera. We pulled over on the side of the road and searched the car, going through all the bags, retracing our footsteps, everything. No sign of it. Last they remember having it is while we were waiting for our taxi from the harbour the afternoon we got back from the boat. So, back into Airlie beach we go stopping at the hotel and mom and dad searched the entire room, no camera. Next, we rushed back to the harbour and dad ran down to see if the hammer was still there. Mom and I asked at the ... read more

With nothing better to do we decided on a pub crawl round Yeppoon. On our walk into town we could hardly believe our eyes when we saw thousands of bats hanging in the trees. We have seen bats flying in the sky at a lot of places, but to see them like this was amazing - as was the stench coming from them! When we wandered around town we couldn’t see many bars - this can cause a problem when you are planning a pub crawl. Gem decided to ask a passing local. He told us that there was normally a good Sunday crowd at the Railway bar. While Andy and Kieran looked for a bank Gemma and I went ahead to check it out. When we arrived we were sure we must be in the ... read more

Friday 19th November and we were still on a high thinking about our trip on the catamaran the previous day. We drove off to Emu Park and found the Singing Ship – a well publicized and unusual memorial to Captain James Cook who discovered and named Keppel Bay in May 1770. We knew that Sarah and Darryl had visited here and wondered if they had heard the ship actually ‘singing’ as it was for us this morning. It needed a breeze for the chimes to work and it must have been ideal conditions – how lucky we were! A young German girl happened along at an opportune moment and offered to take a photo of us. She was delightful though her boring companion stayed in the car. He didn’t even bother to get out to take ... read more

First of all, we must wish a very happy birthday to Barb, Graham’s sister, back in Tewkesbury – we hope you had a great birthday today. We phoned her at about 9.15am, UK time, and had a nice long chat. In a few days Barb and hubby Tony are off to Llandudno in North Wales for a short winter break so we hope they have a good time. We were relieved when Thursday dawned bright and dry, although there was some cloud about. Today we were going on a cruise – Sarah and Darryl had put some money in our account for Graham’s recent birthday and so we would use that to pay for this treat. We arrived at Rosslyn Harbour in true Darryl style at about 0830 - half an hour early but there was ... read more

Monday 15th November – we had thought about staying another night at Rockhampton but to be honest the caravan park was close to the main road and the noise from the huge trucks that went through the city was just too loud and continued all through the night. It had also rained heavily so I was feeling a bit sorry for myself as I didn’t sleep too well. We only had a short journey today as we were heading for either Kinka Beach, which was just a journey of 89 kms, or Emu Park. We didn’t rush to get on the road as we thought it best not to go through the city until the rush hour traffic had died down. We left at 9.45 and got through the city with no problems and headed towards ... read more

So much has happened in these past few weeks, but once again, I have been extremely busy with little time to work on the blog! Since I last updated, the area has fully come into Whale season. Humpbacks are everywhere! We have had quite a few encounters that I know I will remember for the rest of my life. Spring has come and gone and now we are in the summer season. In a few days I leave for Sydney, and after that new Zealand! My plan was to stay in Sydney for a few months, then come home for Christmas. However, this morning I got a call about a position working with ORCAS in New Zealand. Now, if you need to know anything about me, it is that I have dreamed of working with Orca's ... read more

Sunday 22, 2010 Daniele let us sleep in today because the weather was supposed to be crappy and we couldn’t go out on the boat. Amanda and I were both up pretty early though, just staring at the ceiling. It’s annoying when you are ridiculously tired and all you want to do is sleep and your body remembers the wake up call. Soon enough Daniele came in saying that he was going to the marina to check the waves because he wanted to try and go out anyways. When he got back he said it was just too bad and that he was going to head into Uni. Amanda and I laid around for a bit and I had breakfast worked on the blog. We worked on data entry and other things for the rest of ... read more
