A perfect Daydream Island Wedding doesn't plan itself over night. My sister, Jessica, the bride to be, planned relentlessly for almost 2 years for her big day. Luckily, most was put together for her in a wedding package by a personal wedding coordinator which they have on the island for you. Rachel, the wedding coordinator was amazing an undoubtedly the most important aspect of the wedding planning. The package can be basic, extravagant or anything in between with options to upgrade this and extend that. I feel Jessica's was somewhere in the middle.
The 50-something guest, including myself, arrive into Hamilton Island airport the day before the wedding. It is a blissful, sunny, hot November day and the sky is perfectly clear. Our fingers are crossed for similar weather the next day. Half the group had pre booked their ferry transfer to Daydream Island and the other half had not. As the wedding party took up the majority of the plane, the process to the ferry terminal (behind the airport) and then onto the ferry was reasonably smooth, someone knew what was going on and there little messengers assisted everyone else. So we collected our own bags and then moved
them onto the ferry and we pilled on for the next part of the journey. The ferry was of course full of the wedding guest as well and we all enjoyed a complementary soft drink. However you may all pass out at the $45 ticket price for the ferry per person per trip, remembering of course it is also your only way back.
Once arriving at the beautiful Daydream Island we gather for a complimentary group photo where we all receive our own shell necklace. Then we scatter to our rooms. As we had the option of our own accommodation there was a mixture of guest in different types of rooms and we really were scattered at different ends of the resort. We did however book our accommodation months in advance and my partner and I were even lucky enough to get half price accommodation on a special my sister was keeping an eye out for. We paid $150 a night, an absolute bargain!!
My mum, another bridesmaid and myself had booked in at the Rejuvenation Spa on the island for a spray tan so we headed for there and the rest headed straight to the pool. At
the spa we enjoyed complimentary wine, and a fair share of it too. The tan was not very dark, so would recommend a double coating. However the ladies at the Spa were lovely.
That night almost everyone gathered at the Fishbowl Tavern at the opposite end of the Island to the resort for a group dinner. It is walking distance, about a 15min walk, but there are shuttles to take your from one end to the other. The restaurant was very busy and a comment would be that there is not enough dinning options on the Island. There is another restaurant at the resort end and then a seafood buffet opened up on weekends also inside the resort. There a few more café options available for lunch time and the full buffet for breakfast. We had to wait a very long time for our meals when at dinner but everyone else got there's at a reasonable wait so ours was possible just forgotten and a mistake was made. The food was great and everyone enjoyed their meals but for a longer stay it would possibly be lacking options.
The wedding day... After spending the night in the
daydreamer suite with my sister and having our breakfast bought up to us we are ready to be pampered. We head over to the Rejuvenation Spa where we have our hair and make up done. My sister has 4 bridesmaids with each having their hair and make up done professionally. There are also a few other guests on the island who get there hair or makeup done. There is only two hairdressers and one makeup artists on the island so we are a little pushed for time and have a stricked schedule to keep to. Surprisingly its almost executed without a fault. However we are running fashionably 45 minutes late to the chapel. The advantage being everyone is stuck on the Island anyway and patiently wait for our arrival.
The Chapel is beautiful! Its got the most perfect backdrop of wall to wall windows with the pristine waters of the Whitsundays behind it. The chapel fits the 50-something guest comfortably. The celebrant is lovely and the ceremony goes according to plan. It is a perfect spot to show of the destination wedding, this is what we are here for.
We trek of around the island for all the
professional photography before we gather back in the bride and grooms suite to ready ourselves before the reception. Not that we had long to do this. From the balcony of the room we can see (and talk) to all those gathering for the reception.
The reception is held at Lovers Cove, and again, it is the most perfect spot. You wind yourself down a short flight of stairs and your on a deck which leads right to the water. Nestled in between some rocks its on its own and secluded. The tables and chairs are set up and the bridal table is on its own platform. There is a bar, the buffet food tables and a dance floor with a DJ. The 50 something guest fit perfectly, however you wouldn't want to many more, unless you sacrifice your dance floor. The food was spectacular and the seafood was incredible. There was defiantly not a bad word said about the food at that wedding. We danced our way into the night with a knock off time of around 11.30pm when we were told to shut up shop and move to the atrium of the resort as that bar was still
open.
There was not a bad thing to say about my sisters wedding at Daydream Island. Most guest stayed for 3 nights and this was a great amount of time to spend with your family and friends. I would defiantly recommend a wedding at Daydream Island.
