Well, our unit renovations are finally coming to an end and as we have had a couple of 38C days we decided to give our selves a break and went for a day out to Cressbrook Dam and camp area where we camped a few times when Mark and Erin were still with us. I must say, since Toowoomba has had some decent rain, the dam and camp area is now looking even better than we remember it. Almost full of water, everything is green and it looks like they have had a kangaroo population explosion. See the photos. We will have to visit and stay here again as it is an excellent area and the facilities are second to none. No powered sites, but then we don't need it as we are self sufficient. There ... read more

Sorry to our loyal blog viewers. I have been very slack adding further blogs as retirement has been very hectic to say the least. Once we got to Alstonville it was almost Xmas and we spent a week just getting around and visiting all my family that we haven't seen for some time. Once Xmas was over, we moved the van to Mullumbimby where my sister lives and spent another week doing some renovations on her house. I.e. We enclosed her back patio/sun deck with glass louvers, a large glass window and a glass panelled door plus a set of stairs so she had easy access to the garden/tool shed. It all looks fantastic and it will be a great spot to spend the cold winter mornings as it has a North East aspect. All the ... read more

Ok.. Bike all loaded up except for water and my back pack with last things. Saddle bags on, swag on, tank bag on, two way radio working. Was hoping to be in bed by now!! But all things being equal am satisfied bike is well packed and safe. Dropped the oil today, had 10w-40 in it but after doing a test run around a few towns in the Toowoomba region engine came back a little rattly, oil was too thing due to heat, so 15w-50 in now, should handle the hot conditions much better. Still planning on heading off by 5 am in the morning, less than 6 hours! Still to shower, and a little excited, but hopefully will nod off quickly. Had great sleep and rest over the last couple of days so feel ok. ... read more

Warm and sunny Queensland????After leaving Lismore we spent 2 nights in Ipswich. We thought we would be out in the country but Ipswich is really just a part of Brisbane! We thought we knew some obsessed geocachers but we were in for a surprise. We had only just begun our day’s hunting when a car pulled up alongside us and we were asked “What are you doing?" It's always a good idea to have an alibi in these situations, but it doesn't take us long to identify fellow players. They helped us locate the cache that had so far eluded us. The Drovers are a couple from Western Australia who have logged over 4000 caches. They seem to attend every geocache event that is organized in Australia. Their car is a “trackable”. See www.geocaching.com for more ... read more

Welcome to our site where we are going to chronicle the adventures we have throughout 2012 on our Big Lap of Australia. We left our home on January 7 and have spent the last few weeks in our camper trailer, ironing out all the bugs (and there have been a few). Thanks to some amazing parents in Toowoomba and Bomaderry we have had plenty of support, as well as warm showers and tasty food to ease us slowly into the camping lifestyle. These initial weeks have had there challenges as well mind you, with some mechanical problems with the vehicle and the necessity to change a bit of our gear, some that has been faulty and a couple of things which we didn't choose well. Notwithstanding we are now pretty happy with the setup and only ... read more

I’ve been in Australia for just over four months now. Time has flown by since I last updated this blog, and it has taken me some time to get used to being in a different hemisphere. After disembarking cargo ship MV Bahia on 27thAugust, I spent a week in glorious Sydney, where I wandered around in the Botanical Gardens and in vintage shops, sang kirtan at Govinda’s, and saw ‘La Boheme’ at the famous Opera House. Sydney is beautiful and vibrant, and was a nice place to get used to being in civilization again after a month at sea. Finally, on 2nd September, I hopped on a train to Brisbane, Queensland, to meet Sameer, my reason for coming to Australia (see previous blog for background). After a loooong journey along Australia’s coastline, I arrived at Brisbane ... read more

My aunt and uncle live on a grain farm about half an hour from Leyburn. It just so happened that my parents were staying there for a few days before setting off on their next grey nomad adventure, so it was great to have a last few days with them. I love visiting the farm, I always have and it is probably the reason that I have such a desire to work with livestock and that must mean I can blame my time spent at the farm for being at uni :) Tuesday, my parents, Noah and I drove into Toowoomba and met up with my cousin and his family for lunch. We also did more 'can't believe we forgot' shopping and the only thing I missed was a bike helmet for me. Both Tuesday and ... read more

We decided to spend another night in Leyburn before heading to Kim & Garry’s farm. Thankfully Noah slept long enough for me to finish my final uni assignment and get it submitted. Woo, now only exams to worry about and then a few months off! It was a lovely day, nice blue sky, the wind had disappeared and there was lots of clear space for Noah to enjoy. Ryan decided to pull the generator out and start running it in, which meant 240v power… yay! I figured power + clean water = washing. I pulled out my twin tub machine and put on the first ever load. Ryan figured out how to put the clothesline up and before I knew it I had 4 loads done and drying. I think it does a better spin cycle ... read more

Ryan headed into TBar with our ‘we forgot to bring it’ list. After he got back and had lunch, we packed up and decided to head for a free camp rest area at Leyburn. My parents had stayed there before and said it was really nice (for a free camp) and we figured it was worth a look. They weren’t lying. The area was big, open and pretty flat with a clean toilet block and drinking water. There were a few other vans / motorhomes around, so we picked a spot and went about setting up for the evening. I gave the cob a burl for the first time and realised that you need to let the heat beads go all red before starting to cook. Pretty early to bed, as the TV still doesn’t work ... read more

The day of the new adventure. This morning involved lots of last minute packing, cleaning up of the in-laws house (so they didn’t return to mess from their holiday) and that ever present question… what did we forget? After deciding we had everything (how foolish were we) and that it was time to leave, Ryan drove out onto the road and attached the weight distribution bars… aren’t they an amazing thing… hopefully I can upload pictures to show the difference they make. We were on the road around 10am and heading for Toowoomba. Yep, we were travelling a huge distance from Brisbane. The one caravan park in TBar that accepts dogs was fully booked, so it looked like our first night was going to involve free camping. A quick pit stop for lunch at Sundowner Pies ... read more
