Anyone who knows me well enough should know that my favourite apple is a Granny Smith....well i hate them now!! Eventually after a few weeks of sitting around Brisbane spending way to much money we got offered a job apple picking. Obviously we took it, how hard could it be.....very!! We took a bus from Brisbane and 3 hours later we were dropped off at the Big Apple in a place called Thulimbah (that is where the orchard is). 10 of us started together that day, only 4 of us left (not bad going for 4 weeks of work). We joined the other girls on the bus and Tony (the orchard owner) drove us back to our new hostel in a tiny place called Wallangarra. I found out the other day that Wallangarra/Jennings has a population ... read more

I had spent a fantastic 6 months in Noosa, its been amazing watching Eva grow and spending time with Kate. I have also made some awesome mates who I miss but it was definitely time to move on. Having planned this thoroughly I set off to buy a car. I gave myself a budget of $2000 and started looking. It turns out its not so easy to buy a car in Noosa for so little so I ended up spending $3000, with help from the UK credit card, on a Ford Laser (Escort to the English). Having purchased my transport I quit my job at Sierra and packed my backpack. Having the massive sum of $150 in my bank, I set out down to the gold coast. I spent my first night there at the Good ... read more

warning: some readers may be emotionally affected by my recent hardships.....I'm living in an old abbatoir, in the middle of nowhere (the biggest thing happening in town is a steam train passing through at the end of the month) , getting paid pennies, and I have to get up at 3.15 am, AM people!!!! Yay we got a job! 2 hour bus journey from Brisbane and we were dropped at a tiny place called Thulimba, where 'Dom' was to pick us up. Over comes a guy in a uht, we pile our bags on and he says walk across the road. OK, all fine. So the 10 of us nice clean backpackers walk across the freeway where this ozzie bloke says, jump on the back! 10 people plus luggage don't fit comfortably on the back of ... read more

Our final blog from Australia.............wow it seems like we have been in this country for so long this time. It will be almost eight months when we leave that we have been living and working here in the land of Skippy, Jaws and crocodile dundee's dreamland! This is the end of another chapter and the beginning of a new one so very exciting for us both. Now a bit about what on earth we have been upto for our last month or so here in Queensland. As ste said in the last blog that I kindly let him write ha ha ha, we are in nice little country town called Stanthorpe. The town sits kind of between Queensland and New South Wales and is surrounded by beautiful scenery. Just in case you have forgotten, Stanthorpe is ... read more

Today was the beginning our adventure. We said our goodbyes and headed west to Tenterfield via the winding road over the Great Dividing Range. The van made for a slow trip up the hill before making our way to Stanthorpe and the “Big Apple” (definitely not NewYork). We visited a a place called Granite Belt Maze to burn of some energy and stretch our legs before arriving in Allora just north of Warwick for our first road side camp. ... read more

After having finished all my assignments and exams for this semester with an HD, it was definitely time for some reward! Although this would be my last bush walk for the time being, I looked forward to it very positive and eager. It was supposed to a 2-day walk around a huge area. The outward journey was very adventurous: we passed and crossed many riverbeds and many farm gates with our huge 4WD. I just thought: if anything of our cars would breaks here, we would be lost in no-man's land. great! ;-) ... but our drivers were experienced, and we had a really enjoyable and adventurous drive to our camping ground, where we first had to scare away the cows grazing there. After some cosy chat and dinner at the open fireplace, the very cold ... read more

We finally have the new van after nine months and lots of planning, we are extremely happy with everything and it tows like a dream. Our time in Brisbane has been great to catch up with all the family and welcomming the new Grandson Angus. We left Brisbane on Wednesday 21st via the Boroma factory (for some additional items) then proceded to our first stop at Stanthorpe. The Top of Town Caravan park at Stanthorpe is very good and the new ammenities ar first class, although we do not require them as we have our own bathroom.....the new shower is quite large big enough for two! Stanthorpe is well known for fruit growing and making wine, the town folk are all frendly but nobody knows how to make a good flat white. We found a good ... read more

Leaving Toowoomba early in the morning southwards, we first reached Warwick city, where we stopped for taking photos of the beautiful church there; we also recognized that there are also ALDI supermarkets in Australia, and we encountered a pretty stylish car at the gas station (that was filled up with gas through its number plate... crazy); after leaving Warwick, the New-England highway looked like never ending on the horizon... for many kilometres there was no bend or curve in the highway, and signs next to the road signalled to make rests: "arrive alive", "survive your drive", or "rest or R.I.P"; when we passed Stanthorpe, after some few kilometres we reached Girraween national-park on some hot and sunny forenoon; no rangers were there for further information, so we decided to put some sunscreen on , and to ... read more

Over the weekend, 10 of us piled into 3 cars and drove the 3 1/2 hours to Stanthorpe, a quiet country town, located in the Granite Belt, in which I'm convinced the entire economy revolves around vinyards and wineries. We had a relatively quiet games night on Friday, saving up for the big tour on Saturday. We were picked up at 9:30, while still eating our breakfast, forget morning coffee, there was wine to be drank! We loaded up the van and I think instantly intimidated the other 2 couples, probably hoping for a nice romantic weekend, with our our loud, highly enthusiastic and obnoxious conversation. To be honest, I don't even remember how many wineries we visited in all, but it must have been about 10. One of the stops was a liquer shop where ... read more

Sushi at the Campsite! It has been a while since we have last updated this blog, and I apologise for this. Life for the last 4 weeks, working on the farm, has almost made us feel like we are holding 'real' jobs again! We get up at 5:30am and get to work for 7am. Work until 10am, then have a 20min break (these are essential!), then work until lunch (30mins) which we take at 1pm. Then we work until 4pm - so are day is broken into 3 working chunks. We will get back to the farm work a bit later in this blog. In the evenings we have been keeping busy making dinner and doing a lot of reading! We found some sushi supplies in the grocery store in Warwick and made it! We were ... read more
