Very difficult to explain the filling going through the narrows. As the tide comes up, it covers the mangroves up to the top only leaving the very tip uncovered. As we saw the area on low tide and dry, now sailing through the same area but filled with water it was if the world has been inundated and everything was drowned. It was like in a movie where nothing was left except us and Escondido, well, we did pass Volcano going the opposite way, but still I was very relieved to arrive at the other end. We spend the night outside Mosquito Creek, no.. not that there are many mosquitos, is just the name, and make our way into Pacific Creek the next morning. Next day as we went on a resonance trip of Pacific ... read more

Our sadness at leaving Fraser Island was repressed slightly by an early morning visit to Tin Can Bay the following morning, our reason for coming; dolphins. This place is a gem, for now, as around 8am every morning a small crowd gathers by the shore, as volunteers introduce the act, and fishermen watch on bemused by the whole event. Tempted by fish, and surely the attention, a pod of dolphins, swim into the bay and happily roll in the water, and take the free food straight from your hands. The volunteer group don’t charge, provide the fish and are happy for repeat visits! Quite wonderful stuff. Our hunt for fruit picking work saw us, unsuccessfully enquire in the small township of Childers. There was nothing around after bad droughts earlier in the year, and further enquiries ... read more

We arrived at an Airlie Beach hostel around sunset last night, and were greeted by what sounded like a butch of fighting cats. Found out they were Flying Foxes... bats, and big ones 24-30" wing spans. They were fighting over some of the fruit in the trees around the complex. We shared our breakast with a bunch of parrots, then took a wonderful hike to a remote coral beach. Couldn't help but talking a picture of the proper ladies participating in a bowling tournament. While drive we saw that Gladstone had a good botanical garden, so stopped..it was wonderful.. botanical gardens here seem to be a combination of botanical garden, public park and bird sancuary. We took a really nice hike through the rainforest portion. The tree picture shows one tree with aerial roots that ... read more

We arrived last Thursday, to a rather cold Brisbane (well, colder than we expected). Sis and partner met us at airport and we drove to Noosa. We got such a beautiful apartment that we decided to stay for 2 nights. Then we travelled on to Tin Can Bay. The plan was for us to stay overnight and get up really to feed the humped backed dolphins that come into the bay each morning. But, Alas... 'twas a bank holiday weekend so no accommodation available. We knew it was a really long drive back to Rockhampton, so after a couple of tense hours of driving, we found a place in a town called Ceeders. Wow! What a beautiful little town - beautiful architecture. There is a sad history for this town. Approx two years ago a fire ... read more

Hello Readers, We're still travelling up the east coast despite some close encounters with ants and a spider............. From last time, we had one full day in Noosa so we had a walk to the beach and went to the National Park. Noosa has quite the rainforest feel to it, you do really feel you're getting into the tropics. I was still not coping well with the bed bug bites so we only did a 5km walk. We walked to a place called Hell's Gates where there is a sheer drop. We were lucky to see a turtle swimming around in the sea below but couldn't get a photo. After the walk we wasted some more time using the Internet for free. We left the next morning for Hervey Bay where we would be initiated ... read more

27th April We got into Rockhampton at around 6.15am to be picked up by the people at Myella farm at 6.30am, from the bus stop we where taken to the farm which is about an hours drive away. We had breakfast at 7.30am and then went horse riding through the farm paddocks, where we got to round up all the cattle and put them into different pens. After lunch we had motorbike lessons on a manual bike which was good fun but quite difficult. After we all got the hang of it we had a short break. After the break we went for a 7km ride around the farm in the red dust, after this we where going to watch the sunset but on our way there we saw a snake track and went snake ... read more

gday all! Sorry havent updated these pages in ages - never finding the time at the mo!! Next stop for us was Rockhampton ( known as 'Rocky' to its friends!). We stayed in this pretty grotty city as a gateway for me to go to Myella Ranch for afew days to get my horse fix as am missing little Sheen an awful lot! The best thing that could be said about Rocky is that it is the Steak capital of Oz - although we never actually experianced any! I waved a tearful ( ok maybe not!) goodbye to Matt for afew days ( think he was glad to be rid for afew days!) and he went off to Great Keppel Island for some intense snorkelling. I arrived early at the ranch on the first day, ... read more
