After our 7 hour bus journey we arrived at Rainbow beach around 3pm. It was red hot but luckily we got dropped off right outside our hostel, Frasers on Rainbow. It took a while to check in but when we did we met two girls from Essex in our room, Lucy and Millie, who both seemed pretty cool. We had a chat and then went by the pool, the girls were already really brown and it wasn't hard to see why because as me and Freeman dived in the pool they just lay next to it sunbathing, typical girls! In the afternoon we all had to gather in the bar to watch a safety briefing on Fraser Island for our tour the next day which was the most ridiculous and boring video ever, I struggled to stay awake or pay attention because it was so hot in the bar with no breeze. We headed to the supermarket to get some supplies for dinner and on the way back bought a box of Goon each for our tour. No alcohol was allowed in the hostel but luckily they let us put our Goon in their huge walk in fridge ready for the
next day. That evening there was a free walk up to some sand dunes so we joined that with a group of about 10. An Irish lad lead the walk and of course, being Irish, he was great to chat to and had good crack. We walked up the streets, through some woods and then out of nowhere the woods ended and a huge opening of sand dunes appeared. The scenery was beautiful and we walked down the dunes to get a good view of the sea. We then took the hugely difficult climb up the soft, incredibly steep sand dune and sped down head first on a sandboard, it was so much fun! Once we'd all had a go we climbed some other sand dunes next to the trees to get more views of the coastline and then learnt how to throw a boomerang properly. I got the closest to catching a throw but it just rose above me at the last second as I jumped to catch it on it's way back to me, if only I was a few inches taller... We then all sat down at the top of a dune to watch the sunset which
was really nice, apart from the fact I was being eaten alive by all the mosquitos. We walked back through the woods as it was getting dark and all the girls kept screaming thinking that bugs and snakes were touching them, so I got a stick, snuck up behind one of the girls and rubbed her leg with it pretending it was a snake, needless to say she screamed her head of and jumped out of her skin (sorry Dee). Back at the hostel we all sorted out our bags for the tour and then sat in the bar but for once I didn't drink and just had a coke. When I went to bed we noticed a guy in our room was crazy ill and a girl kept annoyingly coming into our room to check on him but then leaving again and coming back in 5 minutes later, I was thinking either stay with him or leave don't keep walking in and out when we are all trying to sleep! In the end though I finally got to sleep even though I was so hot in the room with no air con. In the morning it would be time to start our Fraser Island 4x4 adventure.
