MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!! There is a lot to update you on, but for now, we'll just post the Christmas photos. It was such a different Christmas for us, but definitely one to remember. NOT a white one, instead, a HOT and HUMID one! haha. We spent most of the day in the 30 degrees Celsius pool. Christina arrived a few nights ago, and her and Jace (her other half) were with us all Christmas day. It was very nice to have a great friend form back home visiting!!! We started the day by hanging out in the pool with Heather, Marty, Div and Hayley (Marty's sister), then Christina and Jace arrived and we wend to four mile beach for some Christmassy photos. We did the classic photo of us in bathing suits and Santa hats and ... read more

After 7 weeks in Asia we boarded our flight from Singapore. We were feeling sad to be leaving Asia, which we loved, but we were also excited to be heading for Australia, somewhere we have always wanted to visit. Our flight from Singapore was delayed slightly to wait for passengers connecting from a London flight, and looking at the state of most of them when they boarded made us glad we weren't doing the whole journey from England to Australia in one go. A 7 week stopover in Asia is definitely the way to go! Five hours later we were in Perth. And as we soon realised, so were several thousand England cricket fans, with the third Ashes test starting in the city later that week. On leaving Asia we were struggling to get our heads ... read more

After the 12 hour over night coach journey from Airlie beach, in which a little shit kept waking me up by playing his ipod at full volume even when he was asleep I arrived in Cairns. Had a few hours to kill and you guessed it McDonalds breakfast was in order. I then went to the airport to meet my family who had arrived from Hong Kong. Our place of stay was Port Douglas in the Sheraton Mirage hotel. An oasis of pure luxury and a welcome break from the hostels of the east coast. 4 massive swimming pools, restaurants, buffet breakfast and right on 4 mile beach, lovely!! The first couple of days, the group were still getting over their jet lag and I was trying to catch up on my sleep from the Whitsundays ... read more

The Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary is just outside of Port Douglas. We got there in time to have "Breakfast with the Birds." We sat in the open air restaurant surrounded by birds large and small eyeing our food - the waitress actually told us to go to the buffet one a time! We were able to pet a koala, but not to hold it ourselves unfortunately. They are incredibly soft and appear stoned all the time from the eucalyptus they eat all day long. We also had the opportunity to hand feed kangaroos! They are fed all day long so aren't really that enticed by food, they even pick out the pellets they like and leave the rest in your hand - quite spoiled. Of course, there were also crocodiles on site looking up at you ... read more

Arriving in Queensland we were astounded by the tropical climate and geography - it looks like Hawaii with lush green mountainsides, white sand beaches, and cool ocean breezes! Pineapple, mango and sugar cane fields are abundant. We flew into Cairns and drove straight up to Port Douglas, about an hour north. Several people had suggested we visit this seaside town and we sure are glad they did! It reminded us a bit of Cannon Beach, Oregon with one main street of shops and restaurants, a nice long beach, and many places to stay. We really loved Scoops, an ice cream shop on the main drag. It is open air with glass folding doors to lock up at night (or in bad weather). The flavors of ice cream were exotic and delicious. The owners were so pleasant ... read more

On sunday the 17th of december 2006 it was our 9 month anniversary, so to celebrate this, we went out for dinner. We went for dinner at Zinc restaurant. We had ciabatta bread with dips, barramundi spring rolls and for mains, we had spagetthi bolongese and lamb cutlets. We also had a few bourbons and a sparkling wine. After we finished dinner, we sat talking to each other for a while. Petra was wearing a black ring on her wedding finger, i asked her what she would do with the ring if i asked her to marry me. She said that she would take it off, so i took that ring off her finger and put it in my pocket, and went around the table to where petra was sitting and dropped to a knee and ... read more

We stopped off at Mossman Gorge on the way to Port Douglas. It was a really nice place with lots of nice little water falls and a big rainforest walk. We had a nice look around Port Douglas - it's a very nice place. Bill Clinton has a house there as do lots of other rich people. We, on the other hand, stayed in a tent at Dougie's hostel. We met some really nice Aussies in the evening and had a really fun night. Up early the next morning (not good) to go to the Great Barrier Reef. It was awesome. We were on a luxury boat with brand new equipment. I snorkelled and Olly went diving. The coral alone is just unbelievable. So colourful and so many different types (over 400). We both saw so ... read more

Blog 5 Now where did I leave you , ah yes I was going for a swim , We strolled down to the sandy shore and started along to the area with the stinger and shark net ,on the way we saw a group of children happily splashing in the waves, I called to one ‘’hey ! Aren’t you worried about the stingers ?‘’ ‘’awe no , we have been swimming here for 2 days and haven’t been stung yet ‘’ we carried on towards the netted area, the tide was out so we amused ourselves paddling , next an elderly couple with a pair of dogs appeared and waded into the sea ‘’ excuse me ‘’ I called ‘’ aren’t you worried about the stingers ?‘’ awe no he said there haven’t been stingers here ... read more

What a day! Donderdag, vrijdag en zaterdag heb ik gewerkt. Vooral zaterdag hadden we het erg druk en ik was dan ook helemaal kapot aan het ... read more
