Strewth mate !
(Hang on, hang on. How long is this going to go on for? You’re going to be in Australia for another two and a half weeks and it’s already getting tedious). Silence.
(Well?) Silence.
(Look at me when I’m talking to you!). OK. OK.
Well, we were supposed to go ballooning over the rainforest today but it got cancelled due to the unsettled weather. So, for a consolation prize, we booked a helicopter flight over the rainforest and reef (tee hee). And what an amazing experience that was. Our own private helicopter, just me, Moi and Nick (the pilot).
The helicopter took off from the hotel, flew along the coast, then along into the rainforest. We followed the contours of a few mountains covered in dense tropical rainforest, then out to the sea and the outer reef. We saw giant turtles (they don’t really come out in the pics ‘cos I couldn’t zoom in enough) and a giant stingray. We then circled rircled round a deserted reef island and touched down. Bit more low zooming along the reef then across to the same island we were snorkelling at the
other day. As luck would have it, the same boat (Wavedancer) was out doing the same trip. (See pic entitled Wavedancer and Low Island – Wavedancer is the big boat with two masts. The reef area we snorkelled in is between the island and the boat).
After circling the island a few times, we then flew back to Port Douglas, around the town, and then landed back at the hotel. One of the most amazing life experiences we’ve had to date. We didn’t think anything could top the Everest flight (though we’ve had amazing experiences in every country we’ve visited), but this is right up there with it. Words just cannot explain it. Perhaps some poetry:
Wow.
Oooh.
Look at that!
Aaahh!
Fantastic.
Is it supposed to make that noise?
Wow.
Oooh.
Look at that!
Aaahh!
Fantastic.
You’re not going up in the clouds are you?
Wow.
Oooh.
Look at that!
Aaahh!
Fantastic.
Thanks Nick.
Whew!!
Since then, we’ve been wandering around in a daze.
Went into Port Douglas later for a meal. At dusk, we noticed these
huge things flying around that looked like weird birds. About the size of large seagulls
(You mean sea-eagles?) Shut up. They landed in the tree right by us!!
Was it a bird? Was it a plane?
No. They were massive bats. (Hanging upside down was a bit of a give-away). They flew slowly and gracefully so it was easy to see the shape of their wings, their claws and their little ears.
Mmmmm - lovely little bat ears.
Around the same time, a huge flock of birdies flew round and roosted in the trees near us. The birdies don’t sound the same here as in England. It’s an alien noise. (Whereas our birdies go “tweet tweet tweet”, these birdies go “bladdy tweet mate and no worries” ).
(I’ve told you once and I’m not telling you again). Sorry. Back home now. Delirious. (Or is it pissed?). Hard to tell. Probably a bit of both.
Video Notes: There is no sound on the accompanying video clips due to shortcomings in Windows ability to playback AVCHD format with audio (except for the last one where the camera has been reconfigured to record in MP4 format)
. For the full effect, please follow these simple instructions. To enjoy these video clips to the full, put fingers in ears while watching and say “fubba-fubba-fubba-fubba-fubba-fubba-fubba” in a low voice until clip ends. Extra Video Notes: Apart from the last clip of course.

Hope that you will be publishing a volume of your very fine poetry when you get back. After all I've seen all that stuff (including the bats) but to get your wordy interpretations...wow...! Also like Moi singing in the bathroom..
