Our first activity in our trip alone the east coast where the Everglades in Noosa. We did not know what the Everglades were, but we heard that there only two in the world. Here in Noosa and in Florida. So we really wanted to see it. The trip was 2 days and one night
The trip started in Byron bay where we stayed from the 23rd of January until the 31st. After that we took the bus to Brisbane and stayed one night there. In Brisbane was very hot and humid, and as its not close to the beach there was not wind at all. In the 3.5 weeks I've been here this was my least favorite place, so it was a good thing we only stayed for one night. Also there was not much to see, or do so we just walked around a bit and did not do anything special.
on Monday the 1st of February we got the bus to Noosa were the Everglades are. The tour did not start until the 2nd of Feb so we had a day to look around and relax in Noosa. Then finally we went to the Everglades. We got
picked up at our hostel at 8 AM on feb 2nd. We did not know that we where only allowed to bring a small backpack to the campsite so we had to do this last minute what was pretty stressful and we forgot a lot of stuff.
The Road to the campsite was pretty cool as well. We drove trough lots of forest and on small roads. Also big parts of tree were cut down, not sure why this happend but the remaining's of the tree were set on fire(controlled) that was pretty strange to see.
When we arrived at campsite around 10.30 we first had to choice a tent and drop our all stuff in it. I was in luck, as we had uneven number on people I got one of the tents all for myself. When everybody was done you could chose between the long day tour(6hours) or the short day tour (3 hours). As it was the hottest day so far in this area it was tempting to go for the short tour, but then you did not get to see everything. I think almost half the group made the choise to take the short
day. But me, Sanne and Dez went on the long day tour. As there where only 2 people allowed in the canoe I went with a Swedish guy. The canoe trip took around 1.5 hours through a pretty nice river up stream. When we arrived at camp site 3 we had a little lunch and rested a bit. Because the next part of the trip was a 12 KM walk up, again as it was the hottest day of the year so far (37 degrees) we were all sweating like crazy. The walk was on a sand path that went right though some kind of forest and I saw finally my first snake 😊. After 1 hour and 45 minutes we reached the top of the path. It was like a very big sand bank in the middle of the forest/jungle on top of a mountain. It was a really crazy and unreal experience. I have never ever seen anything like this before. Also the view over the everglades was beautiful, we saw a lot of forest but also a very big lake and on the other side you could see the ocean. It really looked like an unreal place.
It was most the best and most beautiful place I've seen so far. We sad down for a bit and prepared ourselves for the way back.
After walking all the way down again we had to paddel back as well in the canoe. So me and the Swedish guy though it would be a good idea to just get out the canoe and just put our life vests on just flood back with the current. We grabbed the canoe and flooded for a little while. But the current was not strong enough so we wanted to get back in the canoe. But then when we tried to get in we capsized and a lot of water came in to our canoe. We could not get back in without letting the canoe sink. So we tried to get water out but it did not work, and we could not go on land as we did not see any flat surface. So we flooded more and more and it started to get dark already, then we finally found a place to get on land and empty our canoe. We just pushed the canoe back in to the water when our tour
Gide came looking for us with a speedboat. So in the end we arrived at camp a 20 minutes later.
The second day we woke up at 7 and did the short tour. But that was not that special, we went to a lake that was filled with lily pads. It was very nice to see, but compared to the day before it was not so special.
Then we went back to Noosa for one more night and our next stop is rainbow beach to do the fraser island tour
