Time to leave Townsville and the Coral Sea, and head just over one hour north to the tiny hamlet of Crystal Creek, the region containing some of Queensland’s best waterfalls. First stop was Big Crystal Creek, which features Big Crystal Rock Slides and Paradise Pool. The water is literally crystal clear (and croc free), and after enjoying a swim in the falls and sliding down the rock slides, we drove to Paradise Pool and enjoyed a swim in the deep clear water. There was a high jumping rock that I had to try out, including a dive. Little Crystal Creek was our next stop, where we again swam under the falls, and slid down the rock slides. We took a slight detour on our way back to our caravan park to the Frosty Mango, a tropical ... read more

Ingham is just 130 kilometers from Mission Beach so, as is often the case lately, we arrived in the town by mid-morning on Tuesday 13th September. We remembered that we had stopped there for a cuppa on the way up country and found the same picnic area this morning for our tea break. We still hadn’t decided which caravan park we would head for. We knew of one on the coast at Lucinda but we thought we would probably prefer to stay in town and to visit Lucinda as a little excursion. So we headed for Palm Tree Tourist Park and checked in for two nights - what a contrast to Mission Beach! True we were some way from the beach but, at just $29 dollars per night, with excellent sites and facilities, we realised that ... read more

... read more

Saturday 2nd October 2010 - Ingham To celebrate leaving Ingham we decided to party with some friends and a pigeon. Dan made some sausage rolls however Prue's dodgy oven wouldnt work so we had to carry them down the road to another friend's house to cook them, they were delicious thank you honey. The stupid iPhone woke us up an hour early thanks to daylight saving and we were on our way to Cairns where Kuta dropped us off at the Airport and promised to take good care of the Prado. We entered the Cairns International Airport for our flight to Darwin - it was a connecting flight for people travelling to Singapore. We had no idea what to expect inside the international airport and passports came in and out of our bags a thousand times ... read more

Pelorus and Orpheus Islands Not one to rest when I could be having fun, I tacked on a weekend dive safari onto my two week trip to Sydney and Canberra. That's right, as soon as I landed in Townsville I packed up and got ready to spend a weekend on a remote island scuba diving four times a day. The first day, we went out to Pelorus island. It's uninhabited except for a couple whose sole job is to maintain the beach for a cruise ship that stops nearby. Apparently they are complete hermits and fire warning shots over the bows of ships that get too close to "their beach". Needless to say we steered clear of that side of the island. Our Pelorus campsite was beautiful, and even had a small harem of wild ... read more
