Hervey Bay

We stopped over in Hervey Bay briefly a few days before Christmas. This small seaside town is the link to Frasier Island. Many people flock to Frasier island for the sandy beaches and possible sighting of wild dingos. As we were in Hervey Bay for only a few days, we chose not to do a tour, we wanted to get up to Cairns to sell our car! We did spend a short amount of time looking around the town and was amazed by the beach. We managed to have a walk along it when the tide was out, about a mile out!

We were told by the people running our hostel that fruit bats live in the trees near the beach and travel to Frasier Island at night to eat. So whilst walking along the beach, we looked into the trees and found the bats. They were like massive black fruit hanging from the branches of the trees. You can smell them though! They squark all day and flap their wings to cool themselves in the daytime sun.
