Tonight was an all you can eat pizza night - this was a great way of getting to know the people we are due to spend the next 3 days with.
From the window in our dorm we saw hundreds of birds flying overhead, when we went out for tea and relaxed in the hammock we found these were in fact bats! Amazing!

Today is the start of our Cool Dingo Tour of Fraser Island; we were picked up outside of our hostel and taken to the ferry terminal this is where we were greeted by our tour guide for the next 3 days Jayson. We got in the bus and headed for the timber lodges (very nice!). In total there are 39 people on tour with us - somehow a minor got through the net (it’s supposed to be 18-35).
Day one consists of a tour to Basin Lake which is perched high in the sand dunes (unfortunately we could not swim in this one as the sun cream everyone wears is killing off the wildlife). Next we went to Central Station and visited the rainforest boardwalk before moving on to Wanggoolba Creek and Pile Valley where we could see the king ferns and giant satinay trees and finally we got to Lake McKenzie where we were able to go for a dip. All our food was included and we were pleasantly suprised (afternoon tea, ham salad rolls and chilli and rice - so far so good!).

After an early breakfast we were told that 3 people would not be joining us for today’s adventure (their loss). After a bumpy ride through the sand dunes we arrived at 75 mile beach the views were fantastic! We walked along the boardwalk at Eli Creek, looked at the coloured sands and viewed the Maheno shipwreck, all before relaxing in the Champagne Pools. Then came the rock climb up to Indian Heads where we were able to look down and see manta rays swimming below (unfortunately no sharks). Another interesting thing about this beach is that it has a runway - offering 10 minute flights around the island. On our way back across the beach the bus came to a halt at first we were not sure what was happening - Kerry stood up to investigate! There was a family fishing on the beach and gutting their

catch and 2 dingoes were sat like pet dogs watching (wow) but the glare from the sun and the window made photographing this near impossible so we gave the camera to Jayson who was going to take a picture from his window, by this time the lady gutting the fish had come to the bus window - she took our camera from Jayson (aarrgghh) and took some amazing pictures! Tonight we lose almost half our group as they only did the two day tour. We got back to the lodge only to discover we had both been eaten alive by the mosquitoes, sand flies and massive ants - Yuk!

As the saying goes all good things must come to an end - this trip has been like another world! We are able to enjoy more of the natural beauty before catching the evening ferry. We start at Lake Wabby, then Hammerstone Sandblow before having a buffet lunch at the main resort then for a swim in the clear-blue Lake Birrabean.
Back to Palace hostel for the night (all you can eat pizza - again)
