Geo: -20.3477, 148.953Tidlig mandag morgen reiste vi fra Port Douglas til Hamilton islands...  En kort flytur 1 time sørover.

Today I flew from Brisbane to Hamilton Island where I boarded a boat for Daydream Island. Daydream Island is one of the Whitsunday Islands situated in the Great Barrier Reef. The Whitsunday Islands were discovered by Captain Cook in 1770 when he sailed through the Islands on Whitsunday hence the name Whitsunday Islands. I went to my room which was on the ground floor of a hotel block which had french doors opening onto grass and then a beach. There were lots of cockatoos and kangaroos just outside on the grass. I had a late swim in one of the five free formed pools and then went for my evening meal.... read more

Tuesday, January 22 Goodbye to Sydney but not a total farewell since we'll be back at the end of our trip - we've really enjoyed this city. A quick flight to Hamilton Island on Jetstar, Qantas's discount subsidiary, which seems to operate just as nicely as our regular full price airlines. The airport was full of families going on holiday as the school break is coming to an end at the end of January and this coming weekend is the big national holiday, Australia Day, similar to our Fourth of July. Hamilton Island is the largest of the Whitsunday Islands, which are located about 1,200 miles north of Sydney on the Queensland coast, and it is one of the prime sailing destinations for Australia. There are 74 islands in the area, all rising mountainously out of ... read more

After our relatively comfortable trip on the Greyhound we arrived at the Gladstone bus stop a couple of hours before we needed to checkin on our ferry, so decided to walk the 2km to the terminal which turned out to be relatively straight forward. Once we were checked in it wasn't long before our ferry transfer to Heron Island departed in the bright sunshine, and as there were 20 guests aboard there was loads of space. During the two hour cruise we got to see a couple of infommercials on the island telling us all about the wildlife and the islands luxurious facilities that includes private secluded island you can glamp (posh camping) on for $1000 a night with your own chief. When we arrived at the Island the first thing you come to is the ... read more

We left Sydney along with Luke and Dana in the morning and took a few hours flight to Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays. The Whitsunday Islands are a collection of continental islands of various sizes off the central coast of Queensland, Australia, situated between just south of Bowen and to the north of Mackay, some 900 kms (560 mi) north of Brisbane. The island group is centred on Whitsunday Island, while the group's commercial centre is Hamilton Island. The beautiful sunny weather of Sydney has quickly changed to very cloudy and rainy weather up in Queensland. We knew that the area of Whitsundays is currently in its rainy season but we clearly underestimated, as you will read later on. We landed on the smallest possible runway that a jet-liner can land on; it was fascinating to ... read more

This morning we packed up and left our luggage in our room for the porters to collect whilst we checked out and enjoyed a buffet breakfast in the hotel restaurant which looked over their pool. Unfortunately none of us really got our money’s worth from the buffet breakfast, not even Will. Clearly too much steak! Our flight from the Island back to Sydney was at 3pm so we decided to use the Island bus to see those parts of the Island that we hadn’t seen the previous day. This only took 30mins so we still had time to enjoy some pool side napping before having to make our way to the Airport shuttle bus. The Island airport is tiny, with only a couple of commercial flights in and out of the Island each day. We were ... read more

We woke early and packed up our bags to make our way over to Hamilton Island! We (Jo) got the directions for the ferry to Hamilton Island mixed up and thought that we caught the ferry from the same place that we boarded the sailing trip, but we actually had to be at a harbour about a 20min drive away. It was a very hot day again so carrying our luggage around wasn’t much fun, but with Jo’s direction we happily trekked down to Schute Harbour only to realise the mistake and then call a taxi to take back in the direction in which we had just walked and across to the Harbour where we could catch the ferry to Hamilton Island. There was a ferry leaving just as we arrived and as it took a ... read more

The rain continued through the night, but it stopped in the morning We ate breakfast at the hotel. Our package here is for Bed & Breakfast, which is good. After breakfast we spent the morning on the beach, with a brief interlude at the pool beach to cool down and take a beer. It starts to rain at around lunch time, so we go back to our room. I download photos and videos onto the laptop and charge up the cameras ready for our 3-day Sail. The weather clears up and we decide to go back to the pool. As we are going back we notice a couple are getting married on the beach just outside our room. Di thinks that it is a little sad, as there is only the bride and Groom, Registrar and ... read more

Friday 26th February - Thursday 4th march Hamilton Island, part of the Whitsunday group. Hamilton Island is used almost exclusively for tourism. Hamilton Island is the second largest inhabited island of the Whitsunday Islands in Queensland, Australia. Hamilton Island, like most in the Whitsunday group, was formed as sea levels rose creating numerous drowned mountains that are situated close to the east coast of Queensland, Australia. In 2003, the Oatley family acquired the resort and expanded developments to include an expanded Marina precinct, a yacht club and a luxury resort known as qualia which opened in 2007-8. The Oatleys own and run Hamilton Island Enterprises which operates the majority of accommodation and businesses on the island. A golf club has just been completed on nearby Dent island. The region spans from the beaches of Bowen in ... read more

9:07PM, the 'resort' Saturday night we had our dinner cruise. We all got dressed up and walked down to Darling Harbor and waited for our boat. It was very snazzy. We had the whole upper level to ourselves, and as soon as we sat down we were served Champaign. Almost right away we were able to go out on the deck to take pictures of the bridge and of the Opera House. However, since it was pitch dark outside, a lot of my pictures did not come out. After coming back into the warm boat, we were served bread. I asked the lady if they had gluten free bread, and she said she would check. I guess the bread everyone else got to eat was not good at all. The lady came back with a plate ... read more
