Hello, hello, hello, I hope everyone is well in England. Ill apologise for the poor quality of this blog in advance as I am pretty drunk after some drinkies in a country pub in Gympie :) Today we have been mustering cattle on horseback, great fun... we then had to seperate the cattle which was actually fucking scary, theyre big and they charge which we found out pretty quikly when one ran at us and we had to jump up on a fence. Dont worrry mum, im fine, no injuries today :) We then had to give the calves vaccines, ear tags, brands and castrate them.... I had a go at all of these which was good fun. We also got to see some puppies being born last night! Very, very cute :) we were holding ... read more

Hello again everyone, Before I begin, it has been brought to my attention that I may have scared a few people (namely my mother) in my blog yesterday. Sorry mum :) I am bruised, infact my entire left breast down to my left bottom rib is covered in the blackest bruise I have ever seen. There are photos of it to prove this :) which hopefully will be up here soon...HOWEVER mummy, I am fine, and this place is damn unreal! So anyway, I got given a job last night. I phoned up a lady called Leanne at Phenros Station in Julia Creek, Queensland. She seemed pretty great and her farm sounded great as well as the en suite, air conditioned room ill get (hehe), theres about 20 other people working on the farm, including an ... read more

Howdy y'all, Today was dirt bikes, tractos and 4-wheel drives. Now I am going to get straight on to the good bit, we went out dirt biking at around 9 this morning until around 12, we went through some SERIOUSLY rough terain on these things and up and down some hills you wouldnt imagine! Ill admit, I was crapping myself for the entire thing, my heart was pumping at a mile a minute and I was having the most awesome time! However, around about half hour from home I got slightly too big for my boots and we went down a steep hill and up the next which had a small lip at the top of the hill... Now mother, you may not want to read on :) Unfortunately I used the throttle slightly too hard ... read more

Hello again everybodyyy!!! Today has been a freaking day-and-a-half! Seriously one of the most memorable and awesome days of my life so far :) Today started off at 6.30, and we woke up at around 5, yes thats right mum, I was up at 5 happily getting ready for work! We all went down to the farm and got the horses ready for work after a quick lesson on horsemanship, and riding in the Australian stockhorse style! So we mounted up, I was on a little chesnut called 'rocket red' who was just that. After adjusting to the interesting stock horse saddle and the rope rains I was away! So we go out on about a 2 hour treck which included galloping around and generally riding around the outback, all good fun! I obviously had to ... read more

G'day everyone! I have arrived in the outback! And it is as fantastic as I thought and hoped it would be, the horses, cattle, dogs and cats are beautiful and the auzzies are the happiest people in the world! ...daddy you would get on fantastically with the man who is training us, he has the best sense of humour in the world :) Anyway, I hope my last blog wasnt too crazy, I was indeed still slightly jetlagged and had a few too many drinks in the bar during happy hour, so I hope it all made sense! We left the backpackers hostel at 8.30 this morning and were given free tshirts and hats from the guys at reception :) Geoff took us up to an amazing house for lunch, to open our australian bank accounts ... read more

Rains fell on dry lands. Three days of clouds, wind and accompanying cold kept work to a minimum. It first arrived as a fine mist, turning the invisible into the visible; the gossamer threads of geometric designs, the fine clear beads of moisture, the frogs lavishing amongst fresh pools, and the canopies’ quiet with their absent butterflies. It was beautiful as the bush became still and that space for reflection broadened; the birds seeking shelter wherever they could. But soon the change was hard to breathe, uncomely harsh. The sun was missed. The work was tedious and slow. And the extinguishing of our evening fires brought cold food to the dinner table. When the showers came, we discovered our tasks under roof. Laura and I bundled up on the Rainbow House’s veranda and busied our fingers. ... read more

A steady machine came tumbling out of the forest. Gears grinded shifting to a higher speed. Eucalyptus branches crunched and disintegrated beneath the tires. Birds scattered in flocks. Wallabies bounced through the roughage. And the smell of burning oil emanated from the engine block. Behind, left in the dust, dragged a line of steel-enforced chain, whereby three rotting logs followed. At the helm of this beast was the driver. His name was Claus (and the beast’s goes by Rodger). But the driver here is of interest, for Claus is a brute of a sixty-some year old German man, infamous with his tool shed hands, and even more so with a mind of an engineer. You want a computer built for you? How about 80 gigabytes? Ask Claus… And how about a water pump attached to a ... read more

great weekend... whhoooo hoooo... Anzac day was a long weekend. After paying our respects to those who have fought in wars, we headed off on a family holiday to visit friends in Noosa and Gympie. We were able to crash a nice resort. Our friends from Melbourne were staying there. There were no staff to kick us out, so we made use of the spa, pool and bbq area and had a great time catching up with friends. Spa was very relaxing - shame about some kids there that just wouldn't leave us alone ;) Went and played along the Noosa River. We were very lucky that our friends chose to share with us. The weather was so good - wheres the cold gone? That we even got sunburnt! unlucky! After Noosa we headed off to ... read more

Still out WWOOFing with the family here in Cedar Pocket. It's been an amazing experience so far and we're coming up to 2 weeks here tomorrow. We plan to spend 3 weeks here in total and leave in the morning of Monday 7th April when we'll head back to Brisbane to catch a flight up to Cairns on the 8th. Here we've done general garden things like shovelling sawdust, weeding, planting etc and we've done plenty of household chores too, like cleaning windows, hoovering and just general cleaning. Most of the time we've been helping to prepare stuff for market and we've been reading lots! We've seen loads of wildlife.. from Spiny leaf insects to golden orb spiders, wolf spiders, silver orb spiders, jumping spiders, a night tiger snake and lots more. In the morning you ... read more

We're out near Gympie now, near Cedar something or other! It's cool here, we've done things like pick fruit and veg, help pack up for the market, learned how to make cottage cheese and jams, fruit processing etc.. the people are really lovely and friendly and we've been helping to get stuff ready for the farmers market on sat, when we leave at 4.30am! Alex batted me unintentionally in the head with the handle-end of a shovel this morning, so i've got a lump and am missing a few eyelashes, but with any luck i'll have a nice big black eye to show for it.. or maybe not!! Hopefully we'll get back on the internet soon!... read more
