Drove north through Surfers Paradise and on to Southport and Main Beach. Awesome luxury yachts in the marina. Beautiful shops in the mall - if you need to ask the price you can't afford it! And the Versace Hotel right on the harbour. We fitted in well! ?... read more

Today will be my last Friday on the GC for 6 months. A blustery day here on the Broadwater, although blue sky and sunny. I wonder what the wind strength will be crossing Central Asia, by all accounts the winds can be very strong. Today also determined that I needed to pay for 20 kg of excess luggage. A small fortune. Undertook a major rethink of luggage content, but resolved there was very little that could be discarded. The difficulty being that I am unsure what in the way of bicycle parts I can purchase on route if required. As such I am taking everything I can think of bar the kitchen sink. This entry is really another site test, which might explain its banality!! Mother's Day weekend then off at 3 am Monday morning. Just ... read more

Today I collected my bike, packed in its box ready for transfer to Shanghai, China on Monday, 12 May. Unboxed it weighs 10.3 kilograms, boxed 17.2 kilograms. Hopefully the cardboard and packing material will safeguard it against damage in flight. Also have now packed both duffle bags, one contains clothing for all seasons, and the other, tent, sleeping bag, pillow, sheet, bike parts and spare tyres and tubes. Hopefully what has been forgotten is available on route. Bag 1 weighs 15.1 kilograms and bag 2 17 kilograms. The excess luggage fees will be another expense.... read more

When we woke up the next morning we decided to sleep in and get well rested before doing all of the city sightseeing the Gold Coast had to offer. First we went to the federation walk, which is a 3.5 km long walkway and is located in the South Port Spit. It was pretty interesting and fun. After that we went back to the city center to explore and do some shopping. When we felt done with that we walked back to our apartment to leave all of our bags. Then we walked to Skypoint, which is also located just around the block from the apartment, and did the Skypoint climb. We climbed the skyscraper q1 by walking the stairs. We ended the night at the Skypoint observation deck where we ate dinner and enjoyed the ... read more

I got up and the temperature was warm. I had cereal for breakfast, there wasn't alot to eat for breakfast because there wasn't any ovens or cooking materials. We got changed and took the lift down to the hotel lobby where our bus was waiting for us. We had to show them the tickets before hopping onto the bus. The bus was crowded and the bus driver was an old man who seemed really nice. The bus ride took around 10 minutes. We got to Sea World and there was a lot of people in the line to come in and buy tickets. We brought our tickets and walked in the door. Sea World had a few 'scary' rides, but the rest of the rides were for kids and families, which was quite boring for me... ... read more

We gave in and purchased 2 season passes to Sea World. Even though we're just here for another 4 weeks (one of those travelling down to the Central Coast), we know we will make good use of the passes. Today's visit was our first - scouting out the area, checking out the rides and shows. The park doesn't open until 10am, just about right for our sleep-ins these days. Alex didn't wake us until nearly 8:00, so by the time we got lunch packed (good idea - the prices were obscene!) and got ourselves in the car, it was nearly 10. Luckily, SeaWorld is less than 20 minutes away... another reason why we indulged in the year-long pass. We had purchased our tickets online ahead of time and that saved a lineup... we quickly made it ... read more

Early start to see foot doctor last time Philip was in Australia he needed medical attention for mouth ulcers and the appointment followed a pretty similar course . The doctor takes alook at the condition and show disgust errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. you just don’t get that at home and then advises you to go and bath in the sea. That would be the sea with Lions ,Tigers and Bears in? I mean sharks, crocs and Jellyfish. I don’t wish to labour the point on box jellyfish but these are the world deadliest creature and i quote from our second hand book "You have virtually no chance of surviving the venomous sting, unless treated immediately. The pain is so excruciating and overwhelming that you would most likely go into shock and drown before reaching the shore." I think Philip ... read more

So we are moving to a little chalet in the resort of Southport. Just like when Philip was a child holidaying in a chalet in Southport. unfortuanly there are no blue coats here just a mad chinease owner . For some reason un be known reason Philip buys a book from the second-hand Book shop called Australia's Natural Killers. which is so disturbing he has now hid it under the bed, Australia has more things that can kill you than almost anywhere else and a alarmily number reside here in Queensland. killer spiders, birds that will rip you to pieces with there claws, snakes that will render you dead in 15mins and that before you even bothered to dip your foot in the sea with the world's deadliest jellyfish and sharks. Philip double locks all the ... read more

To judge the whole gold coast by surfers paradise would be harsh head north out of southport and it really is a beautiful place with little fishing boats bobbing on mud flats, while running thou this ideallic scene . Philip suddenly hears someone screaming catch and realizes a ball is flying his way which he promptly catches in stunning style, The group inform him its his turn to bat as he caught it. which just wouldn't happen anywhere else so in he goes and after a couple of quick singles is caught in the deep after mis judging a slower ball but then gets to bowl and dismisses the star batsman with a perfect leg break think Shane warne ball of the century to Mike Gatting and your half way there* The People are really enthusiatic ... read more
