Goodness this adventure just gets better. Fraser Island, the worlds largest sand island. Takes 40 minutes by boat to get there from the mainland and a very special island it is too! 4x4 coach that took us round the island, actually scary as driving on sand is not easy, waering seat belts was essential, steve hit his head a few times and me my elbows. One false move by the driver and it could have been dangerous, but dont worry we are fine! Our first stop on the island was the most beautiful place in the world, words cant even describe Lake Mc Kenzie, it was 72 metres above sea level and pure spring water with the purest of sands, good enough to clean jewellery and skin..everything. The best thing was that is was the brightest blue with nothing in it but sand, no stones, creepy crawlies or living things and it was not salt water but pure enough to drink. We hope the pictures do it justice. Swimming in it and cleansing it was out of this world. We didnt want to leave. Has to be the best and most beautiful experience so far our our travels. Then we made
a trip to the rainforest and we did a nice long walk through it, again pure spring water running through it and we took some pics, see one of Amanda holding the tree apart! After that we took trip down the 70 km beach, and the weird thing is, its also a road, so the rules of the roed apply and an air strip, so you have planes and 4x4 cars going up and down it, was mad! Next was the pinnacles, which were coloured sands, the was a story to go with it, saying that a young woman was set to marry an older man who was good at the boomerang, she didnt want to marry him and she met each day with a man called rainbow at the beach, the older boomeramg man saw them at the beach together and threw his boomerang at the young girl, rainbow stepped in to save her and when he died the aboriginals believe the coloured sand was then formed when rainbow died! Next was a ship wreck, which lies on the 70km streth of beach, and came to be stuck in the 1930's a boat made in Scotland. They tried to
move it but it has remained and has become a great tourist spot. It was great and amazing to see. This is when the trip got better, we got back in our vehicle and a pilot came aboard. He said he had 7 seats on a plane that would take you around the whole island, and over the sea, and to put your hands up if you would like to do it, our hands shot up and we thought what the heck......we knew we would see much more of the island than most by doing it, and for $60 dollars it was a bargain. So we took off from the beach and went on our journey. It was so good, over the sea where we could see huge turtles, over the butterfly lake(see pics) the boomerang lake (also see pics) and extensive rainforest and sand! It was fantastic and well worth it, the views were breathtaking, and to top it off...a female pilot! Steves face was a picture! never seen him so scared. Fraser Island is not to be missed to any traveller and lake Mc Kenzie is someting that we will never forget. Lastly we visited Eli Creek, where
its shallow pure spring water right on the beack, where you can wade and swim through and under a bridge, and no sharks! The biggest shame about the vast beach space of Fraser is that you cannot swim in the sea, there is very dangerous sharks that will have you for dinner instantly! that made Eli Creek just a great place to cool down and enjoy the scenery. Hope you like this blog, we are of to Airlie Beach next to sail the Whitsunday Islands and snorkel too....cant wait! Then off up to Cairns - Melbourne - Sydney again..yay!
