Fraser Island Thursday 5th April 2016
Today was going to be a quiet day camping on the beach for most of the time. Anyhow that's what I thought. We decided at the last moment that we wanted to continue to the cape of Fraser Island. Now this is the domain of experienced four wheel drivers as there are two big obstacles to pass. The first one is a sandy by pass track that goes inland into a sand dune for about 500 metres after you go through a small rock based water puddle. Anyhow we were not the first there. There was a Ford Ranger stuck in the ruts. It reminded me of my sister Tracey. I think she would have loved this (not). Tracey is still scared from getting stuck in sand at Cape York last year so this would have freaked her out. They got that car out and another Mitsubishi Triton got stuck. There were now about 6 or 7 cars at this circus. Paul reckons we would have gotten through ok due to our experience in desert sand but by the time all these people got through it would have been lunch time and it was

still only 9.30am. We wished all these novice four wheel drivers good luck and left for our favourite beach and fishing spot. Mind you only after we diverted to the "shop" to get bread, icecream and obviously a coffee for Tonina. By 10.30 we were set up with the awning (fox wing) and cars around our favourite spot and the fishing begins. We left here at 3pm to start our packing as we leave tomorrow morning. We packed tonight as everything is dry and we cannot afford to let our stuff get wet overnight so packing tonight. It is all done now and even though we have all but packed we don't need to leave until 9 am tomorrow morning. We will head down to the southern end of the island to catch the ferry off the island.

This is Tonina's favourite place. She is totally hooked on their coffee.

Diesel prices at $1.95 a litre. Looks like we won't need to buy diesel on the island.
