We had never heard of Emu Park as a destination for our next stay with Karina and family. Booking the AirBnB house on the beach near to Yeppoon (close to Rockhampton, the city where Karina and family were flying out of) that could accommodate seven people in the Yeppoon Region, was a challenge, however, we all loved Emu Park and our stay house. Emu Park has a modern town centre, with an IGA Supermarket, three bakeries and other retail shops and eateries. The foreshore has a great walk, with an ANZAC focus including commemorative plaques, plus a Singing Ship. What is a Singing Ship you ask? It is a metal structure in the shape of a sail located on the headland, with organ pipes suspended on cables, which catch the onshore wind and hum different notes. ... read more

It's been ten days since we departed from home, so I though I'd make a start on recording our travels to this point. We started off slowly, travelling as far as Esk, a mere 82ks from home! We'd heard reports that the caravan park there was quite pretty and worth a stay, so together with Jenny and Gary, we spent a night there before moving on to Caloundra. After a very relaxing and pleasant stay there, Les and I farewelled Jen and Gary, Angie, Steve, Luci and Fletch and began our adventure north. Our first overnight stay was at a pretty free-camp at Ban Ban Springs, just south of Gayndah. The Cania Gorge, just north of Monto, was our next stop, where we spent three nights. This is a beautiful destination, with a range of walks ... read more

Today was all about me (Louise). We went to check out the boat cruises to Keppel island but decided against it as it was an all day affair and we didn't feel like hanging around at the island waiting for a ferry to come back. So we went into Rockhampton to the railway museum which was very well set up and interesting. We went and had a look at the Great Western Pub. It is huge! It has a bull ring inside the pub where they hold practice bull rides (real ones). Unfortunately there were no rides on while we were there. We woud say there is seating for about 800 proplr inside. We then went to the Leagues club for lunch. We went for a walk along the river to look at the heritage buildings ... read more

We had a early start to the day and went for a walk to see where Capt Cook first landed in Queensland back in May 1770 (hence the name of the town where we stayed). It was very pretty there but just a bit overcrowded with people, eventhough the caravan park owner told me that this was fairly quiet. We decided to pack up and drive onto Gladstone. We went to see where my nephew Thommo works. He takes ferries from Gladstone to an island where there is a mine being built. We then drove onto Rockhampton and had a quick look and then onto Emu Park where we have decided to stay for two nights. We are right next to the beach but unfortunately you can't see it from the caravan because of the growth ... read more

Hi there, So since I last blogged, we have been quite busy. We arrived in 1770 and were literally jumped on as we got off the bus by these crazy people dressed as bananas. I wondered to myself how much money one would have to be on to do such a mad thing! They ofcourse wanted to entice us to stay at their "wild bananas" hostel. However we were booked into the backpackers and Tim, a man in his 60's was there to collect us. He explained in the spin back to the hostel that he doesn't "act like a flaming gala or run around looking for folks to stay" in his place. Oh this was gonna be an experience. I could just feel it. We arrived, checked in and went into our room. It was ... read more

Stopped in Rockhampton on our way to Emu Park and as everyone is having a chicken curry there tonight I got to buy myself some food here. Had Pad Thai which I haven't had since Thailand so that was a nice change! Emu Park is really nice. The dorms have single beds not bunkbeds which was awesome after so long in bunks! Funny how much you will appreciate not having someone above or below you! We had some drinks tonight and Charlotte and I did a shot called "Cowgirl" it tasted like strawberry baileys! Mmmm. The guys in the next dorm came into our room and were mucking about I had to got and take my pyjamas to stop them from trying them on! Slept pretty well tonight but up early again in the morning.... read more

Sorry it's been a long time! After Airlie Beach and sailing the Whitsundays, we headed for a place called Emu Park. Our hostel was also a hotel and had some apartments, which were lovely. However, we were in our first dorm room! The room large and had three sections, separated by curtains; a boys section, a girls section and a mixed section. Anton and I were put at the back in the mixed section but had to walk through either the boys room or the girls room; I chose the boys and Anton chose the girls!! We were lucky as no-one else was put in our section, so we had the space to ourselves and I think Anton enjoyed having a bed to himself! We only had two nights at Emu Park and used the time ... read more

We’ve been living and making some money so we can venture on soon ☺ I still work at the marina making coffees and what not. I make so many I think about them in my sleep. Long black, cappuccino, latte, flat white, short black, macchiato, moccachino, muggachino, baby chino, hot chocolate, chai latte, extra hot, soy, skim, no foam, double shot, weak, caramel, cold milk on the side. There are a gazillion options I’m telling you! These people are serious about their coffee! But I am very glad to have the experience so I can get a job making coffees at other places! I work from 6:30 am to 2:30pm 5 days a week and I get 1 coffee and a free lunch everyday ☺ But I am very glad that I will be leaving ... read more

Hi all! Sorry we haven't been in contact with you lately. WE'VE LANDED JOBS!!!! Finally! We both got a job at the Emu beach resort and backpackers! we help clean the communal facilities in the mornings and the rooms. Byron will start doing some odd jobs around the place like driving the grey hound bus that they are associated with and whatever else they need a hand with. i am just doing a couple of hours a day there working for my accommodation ... we are given a room the size of a double bed and that's about it (except this week they have us in one of the resort rooms with its own bathroom and a king size bed, its pretty fancy pants). And then i got a job a Keppel Bay Marine and it ... read more

We stayed in Noosa for a bit, it was a busy town (especially on the weekends!) Byron counted over 50 people in the water at one point when we were out surfing!! (there was probably about 7 different points!) We went on a hike by the water there and got to spot some koalas! We also saw 2 snakes!! I jumped and screamed and deafened myself at the sight of both of them! I had never seen a wild snake on land before, not even a gardner snake!! One of the nights we decided to contact a lady on couchsurfing and we were able to park our van outside of their house for a night, they had another couchsurfer for Canada at their house at the time and they cooked a great meal for us all, ... read more
