21-8-11 Travelled to Lion’s Den Hotel at Helensvale today & booked into the camping area behind the pub, $26 a night with power, water & showers. We went to Cooktown for groceries & fuel, $1.47 for petrol & 99c for auto gas. We then went back to Lion’s Den for lunch, a very old pub built in 1875 with lots of character. We were lined up ordering lunch & a woman came up behind him & gave him a big squeeze, he nearly died, it was Di & Tom that we met on our travels in Darwin & visited in S.A. Well we had a great afternoon catching up on all the goss & having a few drinks, with a band playing in the background. There was a beautiful Jade Tree with the most brilliant blooms that look like an orchid; I have never seen anything like it. We then looked at the creek at the back of the campground that you could swim in. Margy cooked tea & we had an early night. 22-8-11Today we headed down toward the Bloomfield Track passing through Rossville, Home Rule, Ayton, Bloomfield & going to Wujal Wujal to visit the Bloomfield Falls. From there we did the 32km’s of dirt road on the Bloomfield Track, which was narrow, windy & steep, with a few creek crossings. We came out at Cape tribulation where we had a look at the beach & had lunch. We went down to Cafe on the Sea where we turned back & on the way we saw a Cassowaries bird. We had a long trip back & Warwick & the Pathfinder handled the Track very well. We had tea at the pub with Warwick, Margy, Tom & Di & had a lovely night. We all decided to meet up at Wonga Beach the next day, where we will visit The Daintree.
