Blogs from Cape Hillsborough National Park, Queensland, Australia, Oceania

I must have been dreaming when I did the last blog, or perhaps I was pre-occupied with the brawl in Rockhampton. What-ever the reason, I cannot believe that I did not mention a little excursion I did from Tewantin, back to a place just out of Maroochydore. As a lot of you would know, I have just finished building my clubman (Lotus 7 clone) car, and I have tried to visit other clubbie owners that I know and do not involve major detours from our totally unplanned route. The clubbie owner in this instance has a car with similar mechanicals to mine, and I was keen to make a comparison between his car and mine. I have to point out that he has had his car for over 7 years and has put 70,000 kms on ... read more

DAY 363 For some reason this morning I was up and out of bed at 6.15, I suppose I could have slept on if I wanted to, but the daylight was up and I wanted to see the beach in the earliest light possible. So I jumped out of bed, Andy was already up and finishing the blog for yesterday. Once I put my contact lens in, I grabbed my camera and wandered down to the beach, I wondered where the sea had gone, it was way out in the distance beyond the point leaving a large expanse of volcanic rock exposed, I suppose pretty much the same as last night when I looked, but the light was better this morning. I took a few shots, sadly no kangaroos on the beach, as I had ... read more

DAY 362 Ok, so someday’s a day does not work out quite like you expect, and today is one of those days, remember Nick Leeson and the bringing about of the collapse of Barings Bank in 1995 losing £827 million speculating on futures, if you read on then you will find that we had a collapse of Bearings, fortunately it does not mean a prison sentence and we certainly did not lose quite so much, but lose it we did! The day started normally with Andy up and about earlier than me, I was fast asleep but eventually I could hear Andy’s voice, he was over the road chatting to another camper. I awoke to find myself completely sausage rolled in a sheet, which was a vital step in my campaign to at least get a ... read more

We set off from Rockhampton on our 400 km or so trip up to Cape Hillsborough National Park, situated on the coast about 50 km north of Mackay. We wondered how we would go as we had not done such a long leg for ages. However, we started listening to 'The Key to Rhondo' by Emily Rodda on spoken word and time flew by. We stopped for lunch at Clairview, a small coastal village located midway along our route. We heated up our Bratwurst (smoked German) sausages that we had bought back in Maryborough and some onion on the BBQ, which we ate with sauce and mustard in a roll. The Clairview Community Centre is located at the rest stop and we bought some more jars of home made chutney and relishes there, an unexpected but ... read more
