On Wednesday I went for a day long snorkeling trip on the Great Barrier Reef. Since it’s the off-season they had some deals going so I signed up for a free introductory dive. I would really like to be able to get diver certified but I don’t have the money for it right now. But anyway this gave me a chance to see what diving is like; now I know it’s something I want to do in the future. They put weight belts and oxygen tanks on us and everything. We did pretty much have to hold hands the entire time though. I didn’t mind since my instructor was very attractive. People here in general are just so damn attractive.
The boat had a buffet lunch so I finally got to eat some decent food, plus I didn’t have to cook or do the dishes. It was awesome. In the afternoon we went to a better reef sight; it was a little shallower and the sun was out more so the colors seemed more vibrant. The fish were also more abundant. At first there didn’t seem to be that many fish but I think that was because everyone was in the water. After a few minutes when people started getting out of the water it seemed like the fish returned. I think the guy on the boat with the best job was the camera man. He just got to dive and swim around all day and take pictures!
I’m taking a 3 day/2 night road trip starting tomorrow. I’m going a little off the beaten path west of Cairns. It’s kind of scary since I think I have to drive a manual transmission….no big deal normally but the driver’s seat is on the right…so the gear shifter is on the left and the gears are in a different order, like a mirror image. And they drive around on the right side of the road here. It still messes me up when I’m crossing the road. Should be an experience driving tomorrow.
As you might have guessed, I usually type these up a day or so before I actually post them,. Therefore what you think I'm doing or have just done was actually done several days ago. Extra confusing, I know. Also for some reason my computer formats my camera's memory cards when I put them in the card reader and I cannot unformat them. (No, the card is not just locked; no, it's not some setting on the computer; no, i can't just reformat the card somehow with the computer or the camera) So I have to wait to use someone's USB cable before I can get more pictures on my computer and uploaded. Bummer.
