DAY 347 Again I was up at silly o’clock, pottering about and Julie was up and walked past me with the kettle, which she handed to me and said she was going to meditate and then go for a walk up the hill, though all I wanted was a cup of my favourite brew. I padded around the place as quite as a church mouse as I didn’t want to disturb Julie and then went outside and sat on the veranda in the morning sun. Caroline “Surfaced” at about 07.30 and we all sat around have tea and toast and talking of our day in hand. We had intention of leaving Cairns again today, it is a beautiful sunny morning and everything is packed except for what we used last night, i.e. sleeping bags. However, Julie ... read more

DAY 346 Today’s the day that we leave Cairns and continue our journey South, Andy as usual was up early this morning, I was up just after 7.00 but Andy was already outside packing the trailer, so I set about getting sorted out inside, little did we know that we would change our plans. It again is quite warm this morning and very humid, but it is overcast, I strip the sheets and pillowcases etc from the bed in order to wash them and hang them to dry ready for Julies return. Andy packed the trailer, our sleeping bags and other bed linen were packed in the truck, the fridge was stocked and back in the truck, just a few of our belongings remained in the house, ready to be stowed. Then, it started raining, ... read more

Apologies for this, bit one of our diligent readers (The Wallaby wanderes-Smart Arses) pointed out that our last blog entry “The last frontier” had some of the text missing. Well it wasn’t for you to guess the ending but a mistake on my behalf (Andy’s half) I have corrected this know so you can read the ending if you want to. Sorry about this. Andy... read more

DAY 345 I was up a little earlier this morning, just after 7.00, I must have had a good nights sleep, but still well after Andy who seems to be getting up earlier than ever. I find Andy outside beetling around with the truck and trailer getting bits and pieces ready for the off tomorrow. I find out, as crazy as he is getting up so early, that he sneaked off to the car wash place just down the road to use the vacuum cleaner to finish cleaning the inside of the truck. We have breakfast, and a little bit of a laze around, I get some washing in the machine and hang some on the line, but soon it is time to get moving as we are popping out for some groceries to replenish ... read more

DAY 328 Last night did not work out as I had written it, I did go to clean my teeth but the people we met earlier invited us over for a cup of tea, so Andy and I grabbed our chairs and went over to sit with them. We chatted for a while, but it was late and the very bad thing is that because we were tired we did not write their names down so have forgotten all of their names already. We finally went to bed at about 11.00, Andy went straight to sleep, however I lay looking at the bright moon for a while, and did not get to sleep straight away, I feel I have a guilty conscience and I also forgot to mention it in yesterdays blog, but I killed a ... read more

DAY 326 Andy was up first this morning as he is taking the truck to the local Nissan Dealer to have the warranty job done. We need it to be in perfect working order and ready to take on the challenge of Cape York, the service was done last week so we know that everything else is working fine. I think he must have overslept though as I stayed in bed for a bit longer but had not stayed in bed that long and when I got out of bed I realised it was 8.30! By the time I showered and put the kettle on Andy reappeared, by now it was well after 9.00, he took a while as by the time he got to the garage there was a queue of people dropping cars ... read more

DAY 325 We are excited, it is nearly time for the off, and today is the day we are going to stay in the house and clean it top to bottom so we can give it back to Julie all spick and span. I was up first and “at it” straight away, cleaning that is, it is something that I don’t mind doing and find it quite therapeutic as long as I can get on with it in my own way All our stuff for the Kitchen Box that gets packed into the trailer was re-washed and put away, and once the lid was on the box that was it, next stop the trailer. All the electronic stuff we carry with us, power supplies for the laptop, phone chargers, solar panels, ipod chargers, all had ... read more

DAY 323 After being busy for the last couple of days we need to start to focus on getting going again. This Domestic thing was only temporary and we still have some more travelling to do, the thing that is at the forefront of our minds is getting the house all nice and tidy and clean for when Julie gets back on Wednesday. I appreciate that this is not a mammoth task, I know, but along side presenting the house we need to make sure we have all our gear ready for the onwards journey up to Cape York. Cape York is basically 1000k’s from where we are at the moment in Cairns and it is the most the most Northerly tip of mainland Australia. We have been told that October is the “best” month ... read more

DAY 322 We truly are on a countdown now before we leave Bayview Heights in Cairns, this time in 7 days we will be waking up on another campsite and at the start of a new leg of our journey, up to Cape York. We have both enjoyed being here, but are now feeling that it is time to move on and at some point finish what we started. This morning we head out to Barron Gorge, this time we want to take the road up to they Hydro Electric Power Station and see the Gorge from a different angle. After all, we have seen it from the top of the walking tracks and the train so we think we should meet it at its own level. We take the Western Arterial and turn off just ... read more

DAY 321 The last thing I remember last night is Caroline said do you want me to set the alarm, but I said no, as we wanted, no, needed, to get up early as we were going on the scenic railway, and I can rely on my body clock. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz The bit above is where we are asleep. I wake up at about 6.00 am and spring out of bed, I always boot the lap top up whilst the kettle is boiling to see if we have any e-mails and to see if we have any messages on the blog site. (BUT SADLY WE DIDN’T) I go and take Caroline her morning tea, and encourage her to wake up, surprisingly not too difficult this morning. Today, as I have said we are going on the ... read more
