Reef Magic Great Barrier Reef Tour
Alitia, Crystal and Quentin ready to board Reef Magic. Here's a Tale of a fateful trip...........la la la la la.......the professor and Maryanne, here on Gilligans Island........ THE GREAT BARRIER REEF is located off the Queensland coast and is an important icon of Australia’s heritage. It is one of the seven wonders of the world and a natural wonder and treasure of our great country. Boasting 3000 reef systems and cays, it is amazing to realise the enormity of this system which starts in Bundaberg and stretches as far north as Torres Strait. Approximately 2000kms long, this is the world’s most extensive coral reef ecosystem and also considered to be one of the world’s most diverse ecosystems.
The Great Barrier Reef was declared a World Heritage Area in 1981, internationally recognised by the World Heritage Committee for its Outstanding Universal Value. It remains one of only a small number nominated for all four natural criteria under the World Heritage Operational Guidelines:
1: Exceptional natural beauty and aesthetic importance
2: Significant geomorphic or physiographic features
3: Significant ecological and biological processes
4: Significant natural habitats for biological diversity.
We shared this wonder and treasure with our oldest daughter, Crystal who we had not seen for 6 months since leaving Perth, Western Australia. It was truly a memorable day, snorkeling the reef and viewing the most beautiful coral and
