july 11 half moon rising in the afternon. sunny full fresh brreeze cairns esplanade. families on holidays. fantastic view, the mighty estuary strewn with boats. occasional chopper, jetting out. two seaplanes on moorings. red green flashing channel markers on coolish night, perfect weather but. sikhs, hindus, malays, melanesians, melaeucas, palms.
july 12 morning walk, recognising birds. peregrine falcon perched on high rise. footy in the arvo.
july 13 coffee walk, beach stone curlew. falcon on high rise. japanese twitcher. library scene mag acidic oceans nightmare. global finances shaky. we approach a usp, a turning point, warily watching humanity's response. prognosis poor. china adding 13k cars per day. praise for one child policy! our energies require outlets. murray dying!!! and the communities along it. footy hawks v swans. tales of the flag.
july 14 no spruiking for days. at least for th moment it is over. swim, spa, shower at hotel. massive no-see-em attack on wrists and ankles. i suffer.
july 15 bird walk with john at botanic garden. yellow oriole, metalic starling, yellow honeyeater, scrub fowl, black butcherbird, collared kingfisher, male sunbird, male and female lewins flycatcher, brown backed honeyeater, drongo, dusky honeyeater, darter, large billed gerygone, papuan frogmouth, etc. rain held off til we finished. library. bite torment continues. to finally straggle in to 'pier' bar, $4 pints, fans whirling, awning dripping from finest rain, low cloud grey from urban lume. tropical cairns. the screen cycles through ads and song videos. a benign somnambulance settles on me. flickering flame of gas torches fascinates. finally finished this arvo tuchman's tome on political folly. the eternal human condition. yet somehow we succeed
