Hello Family, Friends and blog readers, We woke up before everyone in our room, as we had to be on the Premier bus at 7.40am. We had free pancakes at the hostel, gave back our plates and bed sheets and then waited in the rain for the bus. Neil lost his camel back and cap in one of the cars and they didn’t have anything in the lost property L. The bus journey was quick, when we got to Noosa three hours later we asked the driver if anyone had not turned up and if we can stay on until Brisbane (as we had left it too late to book up accommodation in Noosa, and everything was full because it was Easter Friday). The driver said yes, so we got off the bus at 1pm in ... read more

Have left on our great trip... under the cover of darkness at 12:50am, not the gentleman's hour flight I originally thought we were on. Long story, but short trip to airport. Stay tuned for an action packed trip through Europe celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary. Al & Tess... read more

5/3 Despite going out last night I managed to get up early, pack my bags and get my bus to Brisbane. I got to my hostel about midday where Kennedy was already there waiting for me. We got the bus into town so that Kennedy could book her east Coast trip up to cairns, hopefully at the same time as me. We managed to get all the same hostels and we're going to be travelling to all the same places at the same times, the only thing is the Fraser Island and Whitsundays trips I'm booked into were full so Kennedy is doing it at the same time just with different companies. I'm happy with that though because we both get to travel together but also spend some time apart to make other friends which is ... read more

After staying in the wine region, then stretches of very quiet coastline and the family resort of Coffs Harbour, our next stop took us to Byron Bay. This is quite a small town but totally devoted to surfing. The place was full of bronzed cool dudes with bleached dreadlocks and too many tats, all living out of camper vans. The beaches are long and the sea shallow but the waves are relentless, obviously perfect for surfing but not for swimming. Our accommodation on this part of the trip came as a package so we didn't really know what to expect and it has been hit and miss - all quite comfortable with the basics covered but also all have seen better days. As we're only in them one night if doesn't really matter - I just ... read more

Moved up from The Gold Coast by train this morning. Took about an hour from Nerang to Roma Street near central Brisbane. we have an early flight out to Adelaide in the morning. Staying at Meriton Apartments on Herschel Street and managed to get an upgrade to a massive suite 😀 happy days. Took the City Cat river taxi along the river from Storey Bridge right through to the more residential areas of Guyatt Park and West End. Good value at $5.20 hop on hop off. Nice lunch at Blue Basement Cafe on the Southbank. And coffees, mojito and a cheeky beer along the way. The Bavarian Beer Cafe at Eagle Street Pier is worth a visit. Went to Anzac Square. Being renovated so couldn't take it all in as much as we'd have liked but ... read more

Geo: -27.4676, 153.028Our last stop in Australia before heading to the islands was Brisbane, the 3rd largest city at 2.5M. The City was named after the Brisbane River, which in turn was named after the Governor of New South Wales before splitting off as part of Queensland. The evening prior to arriving in Brisbane, we had dinner in the Compass Rose Restaurant on board. I selected the Canyon Ranch meal in an attempt to stem the probability of me becoming the average cruise passenger and gaining between .5 and 1.5 pounds per day! The main course was Kangaroo, so I asked the waiter if he had ever had it and what it was like. His response was classic - "Well, it is a lot like ostrich!" My reaction was thanks that helps me a lot - LOL!I ... read more

The last two days I've experienced the Australian helpfulness. The landlady of the shared house I'm staying at picked me up after I did a major grocery shopping at Coles (the prices are higher than at home but its still okay). Found a cheese slicer in the kitchen, so I got some australian block cheese at Aldi. Kind of reminds me of the Swedish hushålls ost "house hold cheese" (?) :D When I bought a mountain bike for 50$ from some guy up north from the city center, he threw in two extra tubes, a lock, a map to find my way back and some advice on how to avoid the cops seeing me without a helmet (which is compulsory in australia when riding a bike). Now I got one from the landlady - for free ... read more

21.01.2015: stayed at Heathrow Ibis Hotel. Nice meal. Good room. Comfy bed and no airport noise but so warm we hot next to no sleep even with the air con on all night trying to chill the room down! Up at 0600 and transfer to Heathrow for 0700 to do the bag drop then breakfast. Fly at 1055. Excited 😀 20.01.2015: bag packing finished. Amazed that we are such lightweighta for this trip!! 30kg international flight allowance, down to 23kg for the internal flights so we aimed for 20kg . My rucksack weighed in at a lowly 12kg and Lesley'starting at 15.5kg . Get in. National Express coach to Heathrow. 19.01.2015: Bag packing day today! the rucksacks have been cleaned, the piles of clothes and a huge pile of 'must haves' are mounting up in the ... read more
