Hostel: Somewhere to Stay
Price: $54 per night
Room: Double, shared bathroom, mirror, fan, wardrobe type thing. Dirty carpet but on the whole it's not too bad for the price we are paying 7/10.
Today we didn't have to get up early - our first lie in until 8am lol! Once we woke up we realised the weather was a lot better - typical the day we're leaving it gets hot! Walking to the bus station we realised just how hot it was - we were sweating by the time we got there it was easily 30+ degrees.
The coach took around an hour, it arrived earlier than planned which was good. But we did have to wait a while to be picked up by the shuttle bus by our hostel. We didn't mind though as it saved us from getting a taxi. Liam had read bad reviews about the hostel so once we arrived he was trying to pick out any faults he could. But after being here for a little while we realised it wasn't that bad and could be worse!
We chucked our bags in the room, put our sun tan
lotion on and headed for the man-made beach/lagoon they have (as Brisbane is based around a river not the sea). Not before a quick stop at Dominoes Pizza - fat pigs, another takeaway to add to the list lol!
On our way to the 'beach' we stopped off at the library to go on the free internet woo! Everywhere else we've stayed we've had to pay for it and you only get a limited amount of time on it! We wanted to find out about Wet 'n' Wild waterpark as we want to go there. We found some coaches that travel there and rang a couple of them up but most of them said they were fully booked. Anyway two ozzie girls heard us on the phone and said that it would be much cheaper to go by train then get a shuttle bus.
So in the end we booked tickets for tomorrow they are pretty expensive, $55 each for an adult to get into the park, but its only $21 for the train for both of us which saves us a lot of money as the coaches were $100.
Also, whilst in the library we were
surprised to see Mariska and Davey, two friends that we had met during our couple of nights in Byron Bay. They were in the dorm next door to our room and were a good laugh. We knew that they would be in Brisbane at around the same time as us but we were surprised to meet them, unplanned, at the same place at the same time!
After talking to them for a while we went down to the Lagoon. It was really nice, the whole Southbank area is, it reminded us both of Milton Keynes but with hot weather and a 'beach'! We spent a while there then headed for the city centre to explore more of Brisbane. They have regenerated the CBD so it looks good and there are lots of shops/cafes etc. I couldn't stop myself from buying a paird of trousers that I've been going on about for a while now but they were in the sale for $25 so pretty cheap for Australian standards lol!
Before I spent anymore we went back to the hostel to make dinner. We spent ages in the kitchen as it was very busy and it isn't vey big
for the amount of people it has to cater for, but we finally made spag bol! 3rd November
Today we woke up at 7ish and started to get ready for the waterpark. We left by 8am, walked to the train station, got the train then the shuttle bus and finally got to Wet 'n' Wild by 10am (the opening time). It was pretty easy to get there and much cheaper than our original plans of getting a coach! Although we did find out that is was $21 per person for the train, ah well!
We managed to get on all the water rides we wanted too and surprisingly our favourite was the aqua racing slides…I beat Liam twice haha! It was a hot day, about 26degrees, I’d say! At certain time it got quite cloudy then it cleared, so we kept putting sun0tan lotion on and didn’t get burnt - Wooooooo!
After a long day of fun we got the train back and made it to the hostel at around 6ish! We had decided to go out for a cheap dinner. We’d heard that Indian Kitchen, a 5minute walk from the hostel, was really good
and cheap! $7 for a curry and rice, so we tried it out!
The curry was lovely we both had Tikka Masala, rice and naan bread. It tasted like the Curry Garden at home and it was even better because it was so cheap lol!
We decided to walk down to Southbank, a regenerated area of Brisbane, to see what was going on in the evening! We looked at the cinema, they have an Imax, we might go there tomorrow to watch The Social Network - the ticket prices are much cheaper than other Ozzie cinema’s we’ve been to.
Then we walked past a deadly place - a chocolate bar lol! Once again I couldn’t resist and persuaded Liam to go in lol. After a lot of changing my mind, as there were so many options that looked good, we got warm waffles with chocolate ice-cream, strawberries and bananas! It was yummy!!
We then walked back to the hostel - feeling really tired, our legs are killing us, too much walking!!
Now we are sitting waiting for our washing to dry, hopefully we can have a bit of a lie-in tomorrow as we don’t have
to be up for anything. 4th November
Today it is raining so we are glad we didn't go to the waterpark today!! Instead we are currently sitting in the library and have spent about 2 hours in here writing this blog! But, we have to go to an internet cafe to upload the photos as it doesn't seem to be working which is annoying.
We are going to the CBD now to have a look round at the shops then going to the cinema due to the crap weather. We will be cooking dinner later, joy - the kitchen is too small! We are up early again tomorrow probably a 5am start again to get to Rainbow Beach! Overall we've enjoyed Brisbane, it's a clean and modern city!
