Everyone should have a bucket list. A list of things you swear to do before you die. #2 on my bucket list is hugging a Koala. To do this I would have to head to Queensland state in Australia. Most other states in Australia allow you to see Koalas and get close but not touch them. So I did some research and located Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary near Brisbane. They allow you to hug them but keep strict limits on how long the Koalas do this in a day. So the key is to get there early so you don't miss your opportunity. The hostel has free breakfast so I helped myself to some toast and jam. I was planning on taking a bus to the sanctuary and the train to the Gold Coast. After some ... read more

Travelblog OZ 2010 Jan 16th we left the Grange by taxi with John to Lancaster station.Weather slightly warmer than the 0c which we had endured for a snowy month! Train @ 2.30pm. When we finally found our 1st class seats we were given a lunch pack & coffees. (only £15 for both tickets!) Manchester airport terminal 1 check-in was ok, but AB was shocked to find that bike Friday was costing him a huge amount. £175 for 1st leg only) Golf clubs, surf boards, skis, free but no other sports equipment. Emirates website gave no mention of this at the time of booking. Flew around 8.30/9pm. Best meal on board yet, pity I parted company with it after a few hours. Was it the dodgy prawn, the G&T, or most likely just overload. I slept fitfully ... read more

I really could have done with some southern fried chicken seeing that today was American Independence Day, but Graeme and I settled for Indooroopilly’s Coffee Club for a greasy breakfast. 2 days in a row I am hungover and eating dirty food, I guess I have to get used to this. “Red Dog” made sure I got on the right train and it was good that he lived near the Ipswich line. I caught a train on this line many times before, but no train trip beats the one Robbie and I had that with the awesome train guard from Caboolture to Booval, way back in 2003. I Sherwood have wanted to see the Ippy Girls again but they have come down with the flu, so bowling didn’t take place last night. I’ll have to make ... read more

Knock Knock… Knock Knock… No answer. Knock Knock…”Room Service” I could hear the key go into the lock and I sat up in my bed looking blank. The maid also looked at me weird and then said “Ok, I’ll just come back when you check out”. At least I wasn’t butt naked. But yes, I had overslept and room service was here. Damnit! I hate this. At least I didn’t take anything out of my bag so I was packed and ready to go at 11am. Whoops! Sarah was kind enough to let me kill time at her place that afternoon. The kids were here too (I soon discovered it was school holidays) and I got to watch a few more cartoons. At least it was better than watching Air Crash Investigation. Or watching the news ... read more

The day after the sail boat races I jumped on a Greyhound bus to head up to Brisbane to visit my old VOC friend Kim and my new friends Sophie, Ro, and Pete from the Tasmanian track. This was a pretty epic bus ride. It was supposed to be 14.5 hrs long. Unfortunately the bus broke down twice in the night and we had to switch buses at like 4am. I still have no idea where I was when we switched buses. I ended up getting into Brisbane after almost 21 hours. I was lucky that Kim was also done school and between jobs, so she was able to show me around Brisbane. I didn't really do any research, she just took me to wicked cool spots. My favorite was definitely Stradbroke Island. It has amazing ... read more

This I guess would be my first blog on this travel blogging site. I'm keeping it more as a personal diary of my experience overseas. As typing is much faster than writing and contrary to popular belief, more personal (as administration has been the bain of my daily existence the past 2 years), this diary will be delivered in online format. The main advantage of this being that complete strangers can read about my whereabouts, track me down, and hopefully offer me some dinner or their leftover pie. I write this while sitting in the comforts of my parents' country residence, drinking tea, enjoying hot showers and a comfortable bed. I will keep this short as there's only 2 hours until dinner is served and I must fit in 2 episodes of Entourage and I still ... read more

G'day Folks, This is probably old news by now - but England suffered a heavy defeat in the first test match (by 250 runs). Luckily, had to spend only two days fully exposed to the baking sun. The sun has shone fully for the five days of play. Official temperature is 32 deg C but out there on the pitch it's somewhat hotter, as there's little breeze. Because of the Australian Cricket Family ticket fiasco, allocated tickets were all over the place. Englands manic fans: The Barmy Army were distributed all over the place. As a result, the atmosphere was much poorer than it would normally be. Security was incredibly strict and way over the top. The Barmy Army's bugle player was kicked out of the ground by the police (musical instruments are banned). This nearly ... read more

Goo'day!! Just a quickie to firstly see if this travel website thing works and secondly just to tell you alittle of what I have been up to. I arrived in Perth last week Wednesday. Perth is amazing!! The beaches are just like Cape Town's except the water is cleaner and warmer - so in other words they are better than CT's!! The beach front is full of active people all day and the weather is wonderful - a nice dry heat and to top it off you could eat off the pavement the streets are so clean! So now I know why so many Saffers choose Perth when deciding where to live other than SA. Everyone is friendly and the social scene is as good as anywhere I have been. We went to a place called ... read more
