After leaving Agnes Waters we headed a little further north for our winter escape, we continued north up the back road from Bundy to rejoin the Brute highway at Miriam Vale and to then continue north to Boyne River rest area. Similar to Six Mile creek rest area at Gympie, Boyne River rest area is another place where weary drivers seem to rest for a very long time. If you don't mind the roaring trucks all through the night and arguably the stinkiest dunny's in the free world, its a pretty good place to rest a while. It never ceases to amaze the Littleflower and the Morningbird of just how many Winebagos, (we would love to win a bago'), buses, vans, giant 5th wheelers and the plethora of caravans that are all travelling this great country of ours. Every day we are joined by mega happy campers all enjoying the freedom camps of Oz. There must be thousands of us greying nomads, all hitting the tarmac and reveling in the freedom and camaraderie of life on the road.

The rest area is strangely situated pretty much in the front yard of an old homestead, the owners must be bewildered by

their daily guests who rock up and admire their handy work with their metal installations of cows, horses, old tractors and all sorts of other paraphernalia for our general amusement. We all pay homage to their craft, take the obligatory photo, and settle into happy hour, to watch the big ball of fire go over the western horizon to signal the close of just another day in paradise. Its a tough life, all this freedom, but someones got to do it. One morning we were settled into our daily ritual of percolated coffee, yes percolated coffee, did I mention our coffee is percolated, I think you get the idea we like our percolated coffee, tawny port, savory biscuits and a la fine chocolate', as we brace the busy day of flat out enjoying the northern winter sun. When this giant bovine head pops over the adjoining fence, yes its, Barney the resident Brahman bull, who casts a discerning eye over all that may intrude into his very domain. I mean this is serious bull, thank god or the man who installed strong fence to keep humans and bovines apart, albeit by a few feet. We pretty much spent about 9

weeks in the area mixing up the Boyne and Calliope river rest areas with several sneaky stays in the Tannum Sands Hotel/Motel car park, but we will get to them in the next two blogs. The night temps got down to between a not so chilly 10 to a balmy 15, and then to bask in the 20 something temp days, I hope this is not making you southerners too envious of our, did I mention winter escape. And with that, I will leave you with the photos of Boyne river Rest area, just south of Gladstone (Happy Rock), have a little think about it. cheers love to all, Morningbird and Littleflower.
