Wednesday dawned fine with a beautiful clear blue sky. The view from our balcony was exquisite. Even at 6.30 in the morning there were lots of walkers and joggers out getting their exercise in before they went to work. We had an early breakfast and set off on a walk to Maroochydore. We were soon down on to the beach so naturally, as a true Brit, I had to have a paddle and it wasn’t too cold! This glorious beach stretches from Mooloolaba to Maroochydore with just a short rocky stretch so I relished this opportunity to enjoy the sea. There were a few surfers and swimmers about, plenty of people taking breakfast at the surf club and even some barbecues being used. On Aussie beaches you are encouraged only to swim within set up flags ... read more

First of all let me apologize for the tardiness of this post...we are back in North America now and living in Ottawa...I will fill you in in a later post...but as we were so close to landing in a new city, reality gets in the way. So much of our time has been spent on finding places to live, making arrangements and applying for jobs. But like I said I will get this blog out and fill you in on a blog to be posted very shortly (promise) on our resettlement Ausanada! Canaustralia! Whatever...they both work. Australia seems to be Canada's long lost brother! Auzzie's act and do things very much like Canadians. Almost everything is familiar here...except the trees, flowers, birds, animals, beaches, and other things. But aside from those things we are one! It's ... read more

35 degree weather, shorts, tanks, and bather’s worn to the mall for Christmas shopping does not exactly make it feel like Christmas on this side of the world! None the less, we had a great Christmas over here! We spent Christmas day on the beach surfing and enjoying our new ‘sun shelter’ as well as many other ‘goodies’ sent from home (thanks!). Christmas dinner was held at my new house! With the help of some friends, it was a very successful dinner! Delicious food and great company! Neat to experience a Christmas over here, but I missed everyone back home too… Now that the Christmas rush is over, I will be starting a road trip down to Melbourne to meet my parents when they arrive! I am very excited to see them, as well as to ... read more

These last few weeks of mine have been spent living the life of a real teacher. I am at school everyday from 8am to 4pm, teaching and writing lesson plans… which doesn’t leave much time for anything else!! I am enjoying my time with the kids, as they are very adorable! In my prep class (kindergarten) we have been studying passports and each week we study a different country. The first week we ‘went’ to Canada and got to make some pumpkin pie in class! Very cute and delicious! Some interesting things I have noticed that are different from the school’s at home are - Their accents make it really difficult to correctly spell words (eg Mother is Motha, Saw is Sar) - They all have to wear hats outside to play- and the no hat, ... read more

I am officially a true Australian tourist- we took surf lessons this last weekend on the local beach! It was a ton of fun! Luckily, one of our dear old Canadian friends is an avid surfer, and taught us all for free! The surf shop across from the beach rented us boards for $30 for 24 hours…cheap entertainment I’d say! We split two boards between about 6 people, which was more then enough because surfing is exhausting! The actual getting up on the board was not so bad, it’s just getting back out against the killer waves. Needless to say, the weekend we picked to learn had the biggest waves I have seen since being in Australia! (The pictures do not do the waves justice). We braved them any way, and I actually managed to successfully ... read more

I made it! In what was supposed to be a 14 hours on a train, only a week after a 14 hours plane ride…. Turned into almost 16 hours on the train due to ‘track repair’. As if I wanted to spend more time on the train! Any way, I have now safely made it to my residence where I am staying for the next few months. I have 3 other roommates in an apartment style dorm. One of them is Australian (not bad to look at I might add), and the other 2 I have yet to meet! There is a full kitchen, living room, TV, and balcony. I have my own bathroom and shower and a double bed!! Their residences here are quite luxurious compared to those at home!! We also have beach volleyball ... read more

This early start to the day is becoming habitual now, this morning was another 6.00 wake up. Andy was already up and banging away at the keys on the laptop writing up yesterdays blog. Earlier Andy had released the awning pole from the front of the bedroom as the sun was shining directly onto the bed and it was already an exceptionally hot day, there was no breeze at all. That made it much more bearable for a short time, before finally giving in and getting out of bed for a welcome shower. We left to go to Starbucks at 7.30; this also is becoming a bit habitual, a morning coffee and the Internet. We wanted to finish updating the blogs that we uploaded last night and see who was around on Skype. My sister in ... read more

A busy start to the day heralded that today was moving out day from the apartment, after completing some chores we finished our packing. We had to go and get the number plate for the trailer, as we mentioned before the truck and the trailer have different registration plates. We packed all our stuff and had purchased some storage boxes that would be useful when packing up the camper trailer, and when it came to moving the stuff from the apartment to the trailer our theory was confirmed. It al had to be packed logically for obvious reasons. The trailer was finally hitched to the truck, and we were off, our first stop was back to Camping Country to exchange a light we had purchased and to collect the awning, that we forgot to put in, ... read more

Well the day finally arrived, it was like our Christmas come early, today was the day that our Camper trailer was ready, and we were ready to collect it. Other things had to happen first, complete the blog for Wednesday and publish it, ensure the money was in the correct account for the bank transfer. We had our morning ritual at Starbucks, a small coffee each as both Caroline and myself need to loose some weight. We arrived at Country campers and were made very welcome as usual, all the team seemed happy to see us as they new what we were collecting today, Arron and his new assistant Travis greeted us and Arron had confirmed he had read the blog, I am so pleased as we put a lot of effort in to doing it, ... read more

It was quite an uneventful day today, after the circus of buying the truck, sorting out our roof top tent vs. the trailer, having the interview at Australia Zoo and on and on. We didn’t feel the need to race around, but just to have a couple of days reviewing what we have done, how far we have got and getting this adventure where we both need it to be. The bread had gone over this morning, no muffins and we couldn’t have a lamington cake, well not before cereal anyway. The only problem with cereal and I am a lover of crunchy nut cornflakes is that in this heat the honey that coats each golden flake basically galvanises itself together, so if you can get them out of the box without the aide of an ... read more
