Holiday blog 2 rolls off the presses. Well let’s take a few minutes to review comments made by some local well known celebrities. Paul & Ian both commented on the pictures “where’s the breasts?” Brad & Vicki found it very informative and interesting however they didn’t recognise any of the towns from America!!!! Steve & Kath didn’t make any comment - get a computer; Rob and Wendy didn’t need to read it as they have been tracking us by satellite; and JAG is still jealous. Anyhow, back to our travels. Hervey Bay - made some great friends here at the local Post Office due to the amount of visits made to collect a parcel of spares required to repair our water leak, which we haven’t mentioned so we’ll not bother!!! Hervey Bay is a pleasant place ... read more

So yesterday I went to Lady Musgrave Island on a day cruise. It’s an island made entirely of dead bits of coral, which then had seeds plant themselves on it. There is soil in the middle of the island but it’s made of dead birds, dead leaves and dead trees. How lovely. It’s the lowest point on the Great Barrier Reef, and given that my whole Australia trip has been mainly to see the reef, you can imagine my excitement yesterday morning (even though it was a VERY early start, and I’m not a morning person…) A bus picked me up from the hostel, bright and early and the sun was shining. I didn’t want to jinx it by saying to ANYONE that it was going to be a lovely day. You’ve got to understand that ... read more

During my travel holidays we took a trip to 1770, yes it’s true the town of 1770 is actually named 1770! It’s one of the only places in the world named in numbers making it a truly unique Australian experience! The town of 1770 is a seaside village surrounded on three sides by the Coral Seas and Bustard Bay. 1770 is also known as the second landing spot of Lieutenant James Cook (before he was named Captain) and the crew of the Endeavour in May 1770. 1770 is considered the birthplace of Queensland and is famous for the tranquil beaches and sea scape settings that have been untouched for almost 240 years now! The best way to view this is by taking a LARC Tour it literally takes you through to the closest mainland point to ... read more

Just made you say "under where". We are continuing our way north, along the coast and of course fitting in as much surfing as possible. We attempted a solo venture by renting some borads in the small town of Coulundra. The boards were a wee bit shorter than the ones we learned on, and lets just say we did not get as much "surfing" in as we did swimming. By then end of the day we had gotten the hang of it again, but were hungry, sore, and were in need of an icy cold beer. But now we're pros! We have spent the last three days in the Town of 1770, surfing the last break of the east coast. How sad! We almost didn't make it out today because of a little rascal called the ... read more

Rockhampton 18th January, we stoped here just for one night to break up the 10hour bus journey. We stayed at downtown hostel, it was grand, very homey like. It was a big town, but had a strange isolated feeling from it. Anyway we had a noodle take away and watched a film with a few others. It was an early night cause we were up at 5.30am for the 6.00am bus. Town of 1770 19th January, we stayed here in cool bananas hostel for 2nights. This place was really nice, totally relaxed and chilled out. It was so relaxed we didn’t even get a room key cause no one locked there doors, or even shut them! I did really like it here but i just couldn’t stand the heat, with just a fan in the room ... read more

1770 - The only town to have a number for its name. We dropped our bags and headed out to find somewhere to eat. First impression very quiet! 24/01/10 We knew this was going to be a chilled out stop over and as I was happy to relax Rob booked himself in for his level 1 kite surfing trip. We went down onto the beach and watched the world go by. 25/01/10 As we are due to catch our first night bus we thought we should have a relaxing but busy day in order to try and sleep throughout the journey. We started by going on the free tour set up by the hostel. It was here we discovered why 1770 is so quiet - it costs 2.5 million AUD to buy a plot of land! ... read more

Well guys a lot has happened since we last blogged ....as ever. Next stop was Brisbane...again another city. We stayed in a dorm here 30 beds in one room my god it stank it was in the basement so no light and 30 travelers smelly shoes and clothes just isnt a good plan plus the midnigt bedhopping that you just dont want to hear just close your eyes and think of england!. We spent our time here as much as we could outside. Brisban has a man made beech right in the centre it was amazing to see and so great for families...they seem to be good here at creating things for kids to do. We walked around the city and then went on to Steve Irwins Australia Zoo. Crikey mate it was Bonza! Honestly it ... read more

After spending all day yesterday wandering around Airlie Beach and swimming in the lagoon we took an overnight bus to Agnes Water. It was a tough bus ride but unlike Hannah I managed to get quite a lot of sleep during the 10 hour journey. Once we arrived in Agnes Water our hostel shuttle bus was waiting to take us to our accommodation down the road. Since it was somewhere we hadn’t originally planned to visit we didn’t really know much about this place, except that people kept telling us how good Scooteroo is. Scooteroo was a three and a half hour chopper tour around Agnes Water and The Town of 1770 down the road. We were unsure whether or not we really wanted to do it, but eventually we just booked it. For most of ... read more
