After leaving rainy Fraser Island behind we headed to a little place called 1770/Agnes Water. We arrived at a lovely hostel called Southern Cross which had its own pool and two dogs; I strongly believe that one of these dogs was actually a dingo. It went for two people just while we were staying there so god knows why it’s allowed to stay, either way I kept well away from the monster. 1770 was really just a stop off point to break up the journey to our next place but we had heard that whilst we were there we should do this thing called scooteroo. 1770 is apprently the 2nd place Captain cook found on his travel to find Australia! well he didnt find much becasue there isnt much there! its a pretty sparse town with not a lot of people..not even much history in terms of museums or signs or historic houses. just a few small stores and a laundrette. we had caught an over night bus from midnight to 9.45am i fell asleep for most of the journey waking uop every so often as the seats were obviosuly not designed to sleep on. never mind. we got the 12oclecok shuttle bus and moseyed on down to the beach where there was a surf / life saving club littering the beach most of them kids that were amazing out on the waves! was a smallish beach with a lot of ... read more

Day 36, 17/10/11 Had free breakfast at hostel, bowl of cornflakes and some toast and then went to book Scooteroo. Used a bit of the free internet and hanged around a bit until 2:15 came which meant it was time for Scooteroo. Scooteroo was fantastic, you get a bikers jacket, a cool helmet and a cheap kiddies tattoo and then your off on a Harley Davidson style motorbike around the roads of Australia through Agnes Water and 1770 hitting speeds of about 80km/h (50mph). This was my first experience driving on Australian roads and it was brilliant. We got back at 6:30pm in time for my microwavable roast dinner, which wasn't as good as an English one but never mind. Um 8:30 liefen wir mit dem Boot „Lady Musgrave“ zur gleichnamigen Lagune aus. Diese Lagune gehört zum südlichsten Teil des Great Barrier Reef. Dieses erstreckt sich insgesamt 2.000 km entlang der Ostküste von Australien. Erster Programmpunkt war eine kleine Wanderung auf der Insel. Hier wurde uns etwas über die Vogel- und Schildkrötenarten erzählt. Die Insel besteht nur aus abgestorbenen Korallen und Muscheln. Der Seeweg zurück zum Boot wurde mit einem kleinen Beiboot mit Glasboden zurückgelegt. Hierbei konnten wir schon einmal einen schönen Einblick in die Unterwasserwelt bekommen. Auch die erste Wasserschildkröte konnten wir bestaunen. Nach einem Mittagessen hatte man noch genügend Zeit zum Schnorcheln. My football related temper is no better after the last post. Couldn’t find AFL on the radio & the Bombers were again useless. Aside from that things are pretty good. In the couple of days we were at Burrum River we visited Burrum Heads, Hervey Bay & some little spots in between. We fished in the Burrum River & Phil got a couple of eels but nothing else. Considering the weather, which was pretty crappy, Burrum River Caravan Park is well worth a visit. The staff were great & the few people that ventured out into the rain were friendly & gave some good travel tips. The last three nights were spent at 1770. All I can say is AWESOME!
