Hi Again, heard some people had problems logging into the last blog, if you have, try www,mytb.org/maygee. Trip to Alice Springs amazing too, flying across Australia on a clear day and being able to see how the landscape changed from a patchwork quilt of greens, yellows and browns to browns and reds. Nothing but bush for miles and miles. I saw Uluru from the air, it looked so small but so strange on it's own in the middle of the desert. Although the rock appears red because of the oxidized iron it's actually grey and depending on time of day, temperature and weather it changes colour dramatically from blue, violet to glowing red. It's said to be the best sunset in Australia, they weren't wrong! The drive from the airport to Alice took only about ten ... read more

Hello again, What a cold morning! We woke up in Alice Springs in the early morning and it was barely 6 degrees! It had been freezing that night, because the grass was all white and hard. But also the Nutella was much more solid than the day before, my facial day cream was icy cold on my face, and my shampoo had hard time coming out of the bottle. So after a hot shower, I put on a shirt, two sweaters, long jeans, two pairs of socks and shoes. And still, I was cold. We went on the road to Ayers rock or Uluru for almost 5 hours. On the way we saw a mini tornado again and lots of dead kangaroos. We arrived at the Ayers Rock Resort Campingground, unpowered.. So no heating or such. ... read more

Hi travel followers. Time for the latest update on our retirement adventures. For the last 4 days we have set up camp at the Yulara Desert Resort campgrounds and been touring the area trying to take in everything we can including Uluru (Ayres Rock) and Kata Tjuta (the Olga's). First up while the weather was good we decided to climb the rock to the top. What views are to be had from up there and I must say it was one fantastic experience. Lyn also made it with lots of encouragement and coaching. That afternoon we took a 3hr sunset camel ride/tour through the desert which took in the rock and sunset over the desert. Again another fantastic experience that will stay with us forever. Day two and we headed towards Kata Tjuta (the Olga's) and ... read more

Hi travel followers. I thought it was about time I updated our travel blog on our adventures. From Woomera we moved on to Coober Pedy (375kms) as there was basically nothing in between. When I say nothing, I mean only open, flat roads with no towns, no properties, no cattle or sheep and no wild life including kangaroos or Emu's etc. The scenery was fantastic, but that was about it. We decided to set up camp at Coober Pedy for 5 nights as there was quite a bit to see and do and a few things I wanted to cross off the "Bucket List" like visiting the opal fields and going down a working Opal mine, visiting the Coober Pedy Golf Course (reciprical rights with St Andrews in Scotland) visiting the Breakaways and the "moon plains", ... read more

Dear Fellow Travellers WOW! Seriously wow! I knew Uluru was big and magical but my memory doesn’t do it justice and neither do photos. It didn’t take long for all my Uluru expectations to be blown, to put it in literal terms it took about 10 seconds. As we were driving down the highway, BAM there it was. Still 50kilometres or so away dad and I couldn’t believe how big it is and we still hadn’t even arrived there yet. When you ask people who have been to Uluru, I guarantee you they’ll tell you that you must watch the sun rise and set over the rock and I couldn’t agree more. Starting our only day here with one of the best sunrise this country has to offer we were off to a good start. We ... read more

Hi all! Prepare yourself for the most spectacular photos yet! I have just spent 3 nights in the centre of Australia, in Uluru. Also known as 'The Red Centre'! Or as I like to call it... PROPER AUSTRALIA! :-) During my time here I visited Ayers Rock and Kata Tjuta... I enjoyed many beautiful but very challenging walks, sunrises and sunsets over both rock formations, an amazing dinner under the stars, a tour of the southern hemisphere's night sky, indigenous dancing and a huge amount of information on the culture and traditions of the Anangu people, which was so fascinating. All so special and I feel very privileged to be a part of it. This is by far the most amazing experience I have had so far! Lots of love, Miss Jo x PS. Next stop ... read more

After our second stint in Adelaide it was time to head north towards drier regions. On our way we decided to take a quick stop in Adelaide Hills in an Aussie petting zoo. We had previously read about it and dismissed the idea of petting kangaroos as activities for small children, but our host in Adelaide warmly recommended the experience and when she told us there are other interesting animals like Tasmanian devils there at least I was sold. The petting zoo exceeded our expectations from the first steps through the door. The first thing we saw was a group of potoroos (think of it as a kangaroo of the size of a rat – really cute!) that we could give small pieces of fruit, and from there we moved to bigger beasts all the way ... read more

The Final Part the Red Centre tour: Uluru Just say the word out loud now – fun isn’t it? Rhythmic and lyrical, like a profession of love with a mouthful of lamington. The Rock stands as a beacon, a honeypot, an inescapable must-see for any voyager to the land down under. That was how I rationalised the excursion anyway. Fair play say I to anyone who makes it all the way out there to see it – apart from those who take the direct flight out to the resort. That’s cheating. Having spent 12 hours on an overland train from Darwin to Alice Springs I felt I’d earned my kudos, add that to the 6 hour bus ride to Uluru and I have to say my expectations were pretty high. We arrived on Anangu land and ... read more

An early one today..........up at 04.30 to get the Uluru Sunrise tour. Spectacular watching the sky and cloud colour changes and the effect on the "RocK". Then we did a trip round the base, stopping at various points. Our driver guide was very knowledgeable, having been brought up in the Aboriginal tradition. The climb wasn't open because rain was forecast. But we weren't going to do it anyway, as the elders frown upon it. And when we saw what it was like, I don't think we'd have done it - looked extremely difficult! Finished up in the Cultural Centre, where you learn more about the history and customs and have the opportunity to buy tribal artefacts. Last couple of pics are cave drawings! Got back to the hotel about 10 and had plenty of time for ... read more
