Camp
Everyone enjoying some nice cereal and toast for breakfast. Day 2 of our Kakadu adventure was about waterfalls. Well, at least the spots where waterfalls would be (during the Wet Season). The first spot was Twin Falls. It was a pretty big hike up a hill, which brought us to the top of the falls. The river was dry though, which meant the falls was dry too. It was really cool to be standing in a spot you usually wouldn’t be able to be in (due to the rushing water), but I think a lot of people were disappointed not to see the falls in action. We continued up stream which brought us to a small body of water. This spot holds water all year, so it made for a great swimming spot. Once back to the falls and down the hill again, we hopped back in the truck to head to the next spot.
After a bit of a drive and a little walk, we arrived at Jim Jim Falls. The walk wasn’t as uphill as the last (since we weren’t going to the top of the falls) but it was still pretty tricky. The path was very rocky, requiring us to climb over several blocks and small

We spent a couple of hours here just relaxing in the water. There were two pools where we could swim, one with the sandy beach and the other closer to the base of the falls. The one at the base of the falls had colder water which made it more refreshing, but unfortunately it was a bit too tricky to get over there with my camera to take pictures of it. This was the end of the major activities for the day, so we headed to the truck and were ready for the drive to a new camp site.
Unfortunately, we never made it to that camp site. We ran out of gas! Our tour guide Dylan was completely shocked by this turn of events. He said they usually make it to the camp site and go for another half a day before needing to refuel. I personally blamed myself for this little mishap. Why? Well, it goes back to the previous day during lunch. We had all stopped for a bite
Twin Falls
Welcome to the Twin Falls Gorge Area. to eat and did a little game to get to know each other. Name, where you’re from, what you’ve done in Australia and what you hope to see/do on this Kakadu trip. When it got to my turn, I said the usual (except for forgetting my name, which Hillary had to interrupt me to remind me) and said that on this trip I hoped we’d experience something that hadn’t been done on any of the other tours. Well, running out of gas seemed to be a first. So it looked like I got my wish! Lol
Luckily we didn’t stop too far from out first camp site. So we all piled out and took a little walk back to camp. On the plus side, the place we were supposed to go didn’t have any showers, so that meant we were being spoiled by having showers two days in a row. Got to look on the bright side. That night we had another delicious meal, topped off with a sampling of kangaroo and crocodile meat. Not too bad.
