An exciting picture, I know.
Hillary and I had been using the Northern Territory Reference Library quite a bit for the free wireless internet. Unfortunately’ one day issues arose with their hardware and it was taken away from the lower levels of the library (the quiet areas). This left only the main level which was crowded with other backpackers and therefore had a very slow and unreliable connection. So we stopped going. But the Darwin City Libraries had internet too (though no wireless), so we became temporary members. Talk about a good find! It never occurred to us at first, but this would be a great way to borrow movies and books to keep us busy here in Darwin too. Since we were travelers, we’d have to put down a deposit, but it was worth it for the convenience. Not only that, but with four libraries to choose from (Darwin City, Nightcliff, Casuarina and Karama) we had plenty of variety, and the Karama one was minutes away from our house!

Hillary started borrowing books in no time. Some examples would be: The Hobbit, a Helen Keller biography, Jurassic Park, The Hunt for Red October, and Clear and Present Danger. Me, I preferred my Japanese manga

(anime) books. Graphic novels are a bit more my speed. We also borrowed plenty of movies, and even got into some older ones to cross off all those “must see” lists, like Birds, North by Northwest, Psycho and Rear Window (all Alfred Hitchcock movies). Great stuff. One of Hillary’s favourite ways to pass time though was going through the seasons of West Wing. Gotta love political drama.

The 15th of July was the final State of Origin match between New South Wales and Queensland. Queensland had already won the first two games, therefore winning the series. But New South Wales still had a chance to save face by keeping Queensland at bay and not allowing a clean sweep. Well, New South Wales were able to pull off the win. They may have lost the series, but at least they left on a high note. Hillary was a little bit late for this game, since this date of course coincided with a very important engagement… the premiere of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince! She was able to catch most of the game, however, and doesn’t regret missing the beginning for her beloved Harry Potter. lol

The biggest of the four libraries, with the longest hours too!
