I've arrived in Alice Springs "The Red Centre", after a 2 hour flight from Perth. Thanks to Nige and Nicole for putting me up whilst in Perth, and for the lift to the airport. Stopped off in Cottesloe before the airport and took a few photos with Nige. The landscape from the plane was awesome, you can see why they call this part of OZ the "The Red Centre". The colour of the landscape is parched red by the sun. You will also notice from the photos, that not many rivers contain water!!! I've booked into my accommodation for the night. It's a very clean and friendly place, even if a little more basic than the accommodation I have been used to recently!! Just about to head for a curry, which has been recommended by the ... read more

We have started the 2nd leg of our trip meaning we have seen all our long lost friends and now we are going on 2 adventure tours. We will miss all the people we were able to see and had a great time catching up and visiting, reliving travel memories as only they would understand. Kudos to all our hosts, you showed us a part of Australia we could never see without you! We are constantly overwhelmed with their generosity and hospitality of all our friends these are the things that make traveling precious. We are richer with every new experience. We have seen different stars here. The Southern Cross is only visible in the southern hemisphere and we have had a few good looks. The 1st and most memorable was on the Central Coast. We set off early again today to drive the 600km from Tenant Creek to Mount Isa, a large uninspiring industrial town on the border between the Northern Territory and just before Queensland. As it was a long drive today we set down here for a night staying at the local hostel where I had a few drinks with a nice Italian lad who was driving around australia on a Vespa scooter he had imported from Italy. Crazy! - Town was poo, and had a large mining facility right in the middle of it pumping out dirty smoke right next door to all the kids educational and sports ground facillities. Nice! We set off early this monring to begin the long drive over to the east coast. After travelling about 500kms we soon arrived back in the poo hole that is Tenant Creek where we stayed at the YHA - again! Not much to do outside unless you like getting insulted by drunk aborigines at every hour of the day so we settled in to watch the Hollywood Oscar ceremony, which was just as poo! Still, east coast adventure begins soon. Mike... read more

Saa er 6 fantastiske dage i det roede centrum i Australien ved at vaere slut. Vores tur sluttede i gaar aftes her i Alice Springs. Ville ogsaa gerne have besoegt den gl. Telegraph Station samt School of The ... read more

Not much to report today other than have been in internet cafe working all day (boo!). Still on a lighter note I will be getting a vat refund soon, so I will treat myself to a beer or two tonight when me and Oli take on the Alice Springs Lawn Bowling elders in this evenings Friday Night jackpot. And yes, that's right, lawn bowls. THis will be our third outing to play lawn bowls. I couldnt think of a better sport...competition, allowed to drink beer while you play, slight exercise, use of skill and judgment, and getting out in the fresh alice air in the evening heat (30ish still). Perfect. Hope you like the piccie of us at lawn bowls.... :) Mike... read more

Just to give you an idea of Alice Springs, the temperature the week was there, never dropped below 40...... At night, in our soooo NOT air conditioned van, as a cool early 30's.......to say sweat was aparrant is an understatement. Never has it been possible to get a sweat on when just getting out of bed!!! How people live in this heat is beyond us!!! Still, a lovely town, considering we are smack in the middle of the country.... read more
