Newly constructed steel walkway along the river leads to the Botanical Garden.
Alice in the Territory, the hotel we stayed at, kindly allowed us to check out late at noon today. They understood we had an issue with our luggage since the bus is scheduled to leave at 7:15 pm. Similarly, people at The Rock Tour office, next door to the bus station, allowed us to store our luggage there as we wander around Alice Spring until it’s time to get on the bus. That’s a whole lot better than the treatment we got from the owner of The Outlook Cave in Coober Pedy!

Sunday in Alice Spring is slow. Most places are closed, but a few places we had wanted to go to are open, but we cannot get to them: they’re too far to walk, buses don’t run today and we were not able to “hire” a car, everything was booked up. Taxis were a possibility, but we used them a lot already and several more trips would make it quite expensive. So we check out the Todd Street Mall (pedestrian) and the shopping centres downtown. You can only do that for so long right? So it’s back to Bojangles for a cold one. We want to visit the Botanical

One of the few interesting things here. A bird statue indicating these brushes attract birds. No birds observed.
Garden, walking along the dried out Todd River. The river can be raging after major rainfalls, which may happen tonight. Some of the causeways across may not be drivable then, but the bridges are. Huge amounts of sand and mud and debris would be carried along, making quite a mess. The Botanical Garden was a disappointment, very little in the way of actual gardens, and the cafe and visitor centre closed at 2 pm. So we had a river without water and a Botanical Gardern without flowers. There probably is a better season to enjoy both?

With another couple of hours to kill, its time for another local brew, this time at Uncles Tavern, which seems a bit more upscale from Bojangles. We note that The Diplomat Motel next door would have been a great downtown location to stay.
