Wagga Beach Caravan Park
Bring your boat to camp here! Blog 16
Boggy Wagga Wagga
Our previous blog finished with our weekend trip from Wagga Wagga to our Nation’s Capital for Floriade. We returned to Wagga Wagga and checked in to a different van park from before the weekend. We mentioned that we were looking for work, so the next day Wendy had a trial shift on the cleaning team in the cabins. She must have impressed the manager because she worked 7 days straight, and has worked on and off ever since. They are only short shifts so it wasn’t too taxing.
The rain kept coming and the river rose again. You’ll remember that when we arrived here back in early September, the Wagga Beach Caravan Park Manager, (in the job for only 1 week) was anxiously watching the river level as it peaked. Well, that park was evacuated this time, and the photos show the muddy mess. That all happened about 3 weeks ago and the park is still closed. The cabins are still in the car park near town. We are high and dry here, even though we are on the bank of the Murrumbidgee River.
And look at what is next door to us!

Part of the walking track - only for ducks now! cold, cold Saturday there was an open day at the Kapooka Army Barracks. We decided to attend. We rugged ourselves up with thermal underwear, coats etc, but we were still cold. Chilled to the bone! We sat through the massed pipe band performance (not the scale of the Edinburgh Tattoo). We felt sorry for the wearers of the kilts. We had to get up and move around to get the blood moving. We walked around the vintage tanks and other military vehicles, we watched the flying acrobatics of one of the Roulettes. We made our way back to the car to get Peter’s beanie, but decided to go home and warm up. Therefore we missed the military marching demondstration. We also missed the Army Band’s performance which was programmed to culminate with The Tchychovski (sorry about the spelling) 1812 Overture (with REAL cannons) and fireworks. It would have been amazing, but there was no way we could have stayed there for another 3 or 4 hours to see that. Another time, another town, another Army Barracks, perhaps. There HAVE been some warm days, teasing us about summer’s approach.
We’ve been interstate again, too! We took a run down to
The Wagga Pipe Band Hall
The large open area at the front of the picture is a car park. Albury for a market one Sunday, and trundled across the border to Wodonga for lunch. So for all those readers thinking we have stayed in NSW, we have actually been into QLD once and Victoria twice in the past year. The country-side around the Riverina is green and lush, the wheat the canola and the Patterson’s curse are growing at a mighty pace, and the cows can be seen hiding belly deep in the pastures. (The paddocks are filled with long, long grasses.)
A couple of weeks back Peter had a problem with a filling in his tooth so he made an appointment with the first Dentist he “Googled”. The experience was amazing and the Best Street Dental Clinic (www.beststdental.com.au) really knows how to make their clients enjoy a visit to the dentist. They were absolutely amazing, and Peter hasn’t experienced such a “customer friendly” clinic since Erina Chiropractic Centre (www.erinachiropractic.com), back on the Central Coast. Peter felt very at ease, didn’t cry and they did a great job on his tooth.
We were booked in for the 2 day Garden and Outdoor Festival in the Botanic Gardens here in Wagga Wagga. Man! We thought we would be

One of the local billabong residents. in for a great weekend, but the weather man had different ideas. Doom and gloom was the forecast! Rain with possible thunderstorms, flood watch, and an asthma warning. “People who have never had asthma could suffer symptoms this weekend.” Cheery! We woke to light rain on Saturday, and headed off. Rain is good for gardens! We set everything up and watched as everyone else went through the same decision-making process. Then we sat around and watched the rain come down - for hours! Isn’t it great to be able to demonstrate how the rain drains through our marvelous peg bags????? (it’s is supposed to…you know!) On Saturday night a wild thunderstorm raged for about 10 minutes, raising concerns about whether the gazebo would still be standing. Next day was blue sky and sunshine. Fantastic! The crowds will be huge! EVERYONE will come out today. It will be wonderful! WRONG. The crowd was somewhere else. The gazebo had stood up to the storm, we made some sales and everything dried out before we had to pack up - so there is some positives!
A few weeks ago we visited the National Glass Art Museum in Wagga, only to be evacuated
because the fire alarm was activated shortly after our arrival. This week we succeeded in seeing the whole exhibition. There was the strange, the beautiful and the unique. It was very interesting. We thought it wise not to take photos, so sorry, we can’t show you what we saw.
Peter has been keeping himself busy demonstrating the amazing Volaris S7 Rollator at retirement homes. On our last day in Wagga he was treated like a rock star! Part of the demonstration involves inviting the members of the audience to try out the rollator. One dear old lady stood up, Peter adjusted the handles to her height, then she walked onto centre stage and her knickers fell to the floor around her ankles. Oh dear! It was very hard not to burst out laughing…although several residents did. Peter reckons that’s about the pinnacle of his public speaking career, when female members of his audience drop their knickers for him.
In many ways we have enjoyed our 2 months in Wagga Wagga although we have found it very difficult to secure what we hoped for in the way of business, job opportunities and market openings. So, we have decided to
move on
We are going to Canberra for a week or so (interstate again!), for some markets. And to do some business.
After Canberra we will be travelling to Bathurst for the “Bathurst’s Biggest Expo” on November 20 and 21.
If you know anybody in either Canberra or Bathurst who you think would be a good contact for us, please let us or them know (with the appropriate contact details).
