About a year ago, when our twins were three years old and we could count the amount of nights we had slept all night on one hand, my wonderful parents gave us a beacon: the promise of five days off after next Christmas. So... those days have arrived and what did Jono and I decide to do? Not a resort holiday on a tropical island or a health retreat but a 100km walk along the south coast. We decided we wanted to connect the dots between my parents' place in Vincentia and Jono's parents' place in Batemans Bay: two places that we spend a lot of time in but the stretch of coast in between was largely unknown to us as we would generally be zipping along the highway at 100km an hour. 7-1-8 near nandi fiji torrential rain, warm humid summer in the south pacific. days hve passed i've been dark places, lost, lonely the sometimes curse of the intrepid traveller. doubt, indecision, the existential dilemma looming not lurking, chant your mantra, hold on thru that difficult night. then the dawn, a new beginning i met michael who tlaked in a talahassie drawl of all the truths like a monologue of life. while he steadily consumed beer and occasionally wine. but i'd just finished malouf's 'johnno' a lyrical phraseology and before that 'my life as a fake' by carey. what genius. and so i called out to my muse. seeking inspiration and felt words form, flutter into life, fall into wonderful patterns like butterfly wings and tried to construct a world i could live in. 11-1-8 mollymook made ... read more

dean is keen doing flips off the grass and on to sand below. madison to be at market in the morning. i'm talking to thirteen-year-olds about flag. madison four flips fantastic. 14-1-8 overcast occasional mist morning tea among the gums and cockatoos. spruiked in front of PO. lunch barby and fell to talking with council workers and then sydneysiders family of five they gave me a burger! down at dock espied boat that came in earlier and chatted with builder/owner and saw his sign looking for crew to go north!!! a marvellous vision appeared of that splendid ship in a stiff southeaster me abord. then another yachtie delivering a dingy to hobart entertained with nautical knowhow. 15-1-8 busy day. last night engine overheating this a.m. pump required. top spruik PO and then wham car park for ... read more

I know we've only been here 10 days, but the ocean calls, so we head on down (3hours drive South from Syndey) to Jervis Bay. When looking at Australia on Google Earth before we left the UK, Mike had spotted the white beaches (apparently some of the whitest in the world) at Jervis Bay, so the decision of where to go for our first weekend away was easy...we booked into a B&B in Vincentia, Jervis Bay. We found a gem of a B&B, called Dunes (www.dunes-bnb.com.au). Sandra, the owner, was wonderful. She couldn't have provided a better service if she tried. Our room was lovely and she had thought of everything, a spare sun hat and sunscreen, all the little touches that make you want to go back. She even made a packed breakfast for Mike ... read more
