DAY 388 Well my reverse psychology clearly worked, it was gone 5.00am and there was not a breeze to be had, the trailer and canvas were completely still, the birds squawked and tweeted outside playfully. I could hear a vehicle start up and leave, I wondered if it was David (our next door neighbour) leaving early, if that was the case there was no chance to say goodbye. We were both up and out of bed at around 7.00, ok so I lied, Andy was a little earlier than me, I woke up to hear the familiar sound of tippy tappying on the keyboard at the bottom of the bed. Andy went out to put the kettle on, rigging it all up so that it was sheltered from the cool breeze that had now appeared. The ... read more

DAY 387 It was roughly the same time as yesterday morning when the wind really blew up again, the tent started to billow, the trailer was rocking and we both felt how cold and draughty it was. We stayed in bed longer again this morning just to keep warm and when the rain came we knew that it was quite possible that we would end up staying another day. The rain was so heavy that it just soaks the canvas and we have learnt in the past that it is wise not to pack away the tent while the canvas is wet, for no other reason but it has the potential to make our bed damp. It was probably around 8.00 again this morning before we surfaced, I put the kettle on again shielding it from ... read more

DAY 386 I was born in Castle Bromwich, near Birmingham, in 1963 and spent most of my adult life living in Southampton, strangely enough both places synonymous with the Spitfire, the creation of RJ Mitchell, a brillant aircraft designer and aircraft that still makes the hairs on my arms stand up, everytime I see one. Castle Bromwich is the place where my childhood was enjoyed, a great village, formed in Anglo Saxon times, more importantly to me, a place where my family lived but equally a place that produced 20,000 Spitfires from 1940 onwards, in a factory that still exists but is now where Jaguar makes its cars. RJ Mitchell went to work for the Supermarine aviation works in Southampton in 1917 and went on to design the S6B which won the Schneider Trophy in 1931 ... read more

DAY 385 Firstly, Happy Birthday Gary Barber, 46 today, hope you have a good day, matey, back home in Tamworth, Staffordshire. This morning I was up before the sun, I guess that it wasn’t being lazy, I just suppose it wanted an extra half an hour in bed, which is possibly fair and reasonable, but it left us with a cloudy and cool morning. This is one of those mornings that we need the sun after our mega rain, which was fairly constant for about 18 hours, the tent needs to dry out as we will need to be packing away the Wendy House this morning to head to Temora, to see our friends Lee and Marilyn Harris, they live in Bathurst but we have arranged to meet them in Temora for an air show. Caroline ... read more
