the CUNNUMULLA FELLA
As the name suggests this statue is in Cunumulla and is a memorial to 'Outback heritage' and Slim Dusty. Crossed the border from Cunnumulla to Bourke. As I said on a previous Blog - all the towns as far as Inverell have been prety 'hick places' not inviting at all. Being up on the New England Tableland, Inverell was the start of interesting, inviting places - even if cold...... coldest thus far was in Glen Innes - 0.2deg minimum overnight!!! The scenery as you drive along looks just like The Atherton Tablelands - rolling hills of green and trees and very picturesque vistas open up before you periodically. The cooler prevailing weather has made way for beautiful plants and trees - cool climate plants such as daffodils, magnolias, camelias, maples, may, roses, cherry blossom, crab-apple, etc etc and exquisite parrots that you'd swear had been hand-painted, such is the exact lines of their colour changes. All throughout the trip there has been the ever-present galahs. From Inverell > Glen Innes > Armidale > Tamworth. Being the 'Country Music Capital' of Australia, I was very disappointed with the so-called memorials to the Country pioneers and present-day performers. There are about 3-4 places all showing basically the same stuff (and charging at each place) in rather run-down old facilities with poor lighting
Rueles of Passage on a Cobb & Co coach
Make sure you enlarge & read - some of the rules/advice is quite funny..... and scattered about from one end of Tamworth to the other. They should build a new, modern facility and combine all the exhibits in a more fitting atmosphere to honour our Country Music heritage and past & present performers. They deserve better that what they've got. We're now at Lake Keepit - about 35km east of Gunnedah, which is our next stop. Last night we had quite a thunderstorm and it has rained all night and is still raining!!! Honestly, all the shire Councils in these drought-affected areas should pay us to spend a few days in their area!!! We've come from the wettest place in Australia and we just keep getting more rain. We were out in the desert between Birdsville & Innamincka and it rained !!!!!!!!!!! Had a bad bad bad bad bad bad day yesterday - the Storm got absolutely thrashed in the Grand Final - and that's all I've got to say about that!
