The botanical gardens (right outside of the hotel and in the heart of the city) has many trees loaded with bats
Our first day in Sydney was spent meandering around the city. Highlights from the day were walking through the botanical gardens and seeing the birds (parrots, cockatoo, cockateils were all in abundance) and other wildlife (i.e., bats). We then went to Sydney's two most famous landmarks, the Opera House and the Harbor Bridge.

We spent our second day outside the city hiking the Blue Mountain National Park. The mountains are named after the blue hue from the vast forrests of eucalyptus trees in the valley. The hike was amazing but brutal, needless to say we were happy to be done (we thusly celebrated with ice cream and potato chips for lunch). Also within the valley are the 3 sister peaks. The story goes that three aboriginal sisters were doing things they weren't suppose to (these things vary by who you talk to and some are more scandalous than others) so the father used a magic bone (hehe) to turn them to stone and then lost the bone and could not turn them back. So today we still have the 3 peaks that are perched at the top of the valley

Finally, we finished with a visit to a wildlife refuge. This place was a cornucopia of Australian animals from wombats to echidnas and kangaroos to dingos (they look like dogs). In addition, they had koala's which you could pet. It was a wonderful end to the Australia part of our trip. Tomorrow we head to Queenstown, New Zealand, our last country before we return to the US

The countdown to our return to the real world has begun

Apparently the statue of one of the three sisters got a little frisky (can you blame her?!)

If you can not tell, Chris is a tad disgusted at this imitation koala
