After a deathly exhausting 12 hour bus ride from Byron Bay we arrived, 10 am, in the midst of a busy city. After walking around barefoot for 3 weeks in a town that doesn't even have a starbucks or a mcdonalds - this was a shock. Sydney is a gorgeous city (strikingly similar to Vancouver) but it definitely took us by surprise on the first day. We spent the day awestruck lying in the botanical garden park that overlooks the Sydney Opera house, reading and writing. Yesterday we took a ferry over to Manly, a nearly town that Hill's sister Meaghan lived in for 3 months, and spent the day lazily. It started to thunder when we were on the beach so headed to a cafe to avoid getting wet. Our plan was kayaking but since it was storming that didn't exactly pan out, so we headed to a nice dockside restaurant and treated ourselves to a meal and some wine. After 3 weeks of drinking boxed Goon "wine" this was more than we could have ever dreamt of. The ferry home was dark, but as we came up to the city the lights of the skyline were stunning. our last day in Australia, and as this part of the trip comes to an end we're both excited and scared for the change. After some neccessary preparations for Asia, we plan to walk around some of the local museums and sights of the city to soak up what we can of it before heading to the third world. Part one of the trip has been amazing: the gorgeous varying landscapes, the stunning beaches, learning aussie slang, and meeting the most incredible people (those that we met in Byron we will never forget you and sincerely hope that you visit Canada ASAP!). Part two is going to be an adventure of a life time. Love to those back at home. Next Stop: BALI!
