Xmas Day LunchXmas Day LunchXmas Day Lunch

Our delicious lunch on christmas day!
It’s been a busy few days! We arrived on the 23rd and the flight wasn’t too bad. We flew from Bangkok to Melbourne and in the duty free shop we decided to purchase notebooks, which nearly made us miss our connecting flight to Sydney as the shop assistant was really slow!

On christmas eve, we climbed sydney harbour bridge which was amazing! The views were brilliant and it was really magical!

For the first few days we stayed at a hostel on Bondi beach. On Christmas eve we were able to stay on the beach as the weather was really good and I even got a little burnt wearing SPF 50! However it rained every day after at Bondi, including Christmas day! For xmas we bought tickets to the ‘Sunburnt’ Christmas event on Bondi. The weather was bad, really windy and rainy and the event was mainly outdoors. So we got very wet and cold, it was like being in England. For lunch we had cold potatoes, pasta and ham and chicken, which was the worst Christmas meal of my life! But I was in good company so the day wasn’t a total let down.
For Boxing Day we decided to have a second try at Christmas. Kim and I went for a coastal walk from Bondi to Bronte, in the rain, but it was actually really good. Then Zoe, Kim and I went to the supermarket and bought all the ingredients for a roast. I then cooked us roast chicken with all the trimmings, stuffing, butternut squash, parsnips, potatoes etc. in the hostel kitchen, which was definitely an experience. We even had a box of goon to enjoy throughout the day. The meal was actually really good and I’m not sure if that is because of the goon or not.
We then moved hostels into the town. Which I was really happy about as Bondi is really overrated. We are in an 8 bed dorm. Our roomies are a group of guys who have been staying there for 7 months so there stuff is everywhere! They are all really great guys though so I think we lucked out with our roommates. Unfortunately our hostel doesn’t have an oven which is a little annoying but we’ve been cooking some really good meals anyway. The other evening Catherine and I did breaded squid with a mixed leaf salad, quite

good for travelers!
We went out to World Bar the other evening where they serve all the drinks in a tea pot, Ash brought his mum along and she was horrified by the whole experience. It was a good evening out and a chance to experience Kings Cross at night, a ’seedier’ area of Sydney! The teapots were fun as well!
As it has been raining most days we have been doing some inside activities. We went to the art gallery of New South Wales, which was really cool. It had loads of contemporary art and some aboriginal art as well which was really interesting. There was one exhibit of a shedded human skin that looked really life like.
Yesterday the sun actually shined for once so we took the ferry across the harbor to Manly and spent the day at the beach. It was a great beach, a lot better than Bondi and the sun wasn’t too hot either! Kim had to stay in her dress all day because of her sun burn so that wasn’t too fun but she did find an amazing ice cream shop. Ash attempted to teach me to body surf and I did

manage to catch one wave which was fun, but the prospect of sharks kind of freaked me out so I didn’t stay in the water too long.
Today we got up early and took the train to Katoomba, which took 2 hours so we could visit the Blue Mountains. We got a hop on, hop off bus ticket so we could see all the sights at our own pace. We started the day at the scenic area, where we rode a sky car across the gorge that had a glass floor so you could see the rainforest below. We then took the world’s steepest train to the bottom of the valley; it was 52 degrees and was really similar to the Jurassic park ride in Florida, steep! At the bottom we went on a walk through the rainforest, we didn’t spot any koala bears though! We then got the cable car back to the top and got back on the bus. We then went to a chocolate shop where Kim bought some hand crafted treats before we went on to echo point. The views were amazing and we saw the 3 sister’s rock formation and took the walk that allowed

you to walk right up to the bottom of the first sister. Throughout the day we saw lots of waterfalls but none were as impressive as the one’s in Thailand. We finished the day off with a walk to Gordon’s Falls before catching the train back to Sydney Central.
