After another week at our respective office jobs we were looking forward to a relaxing weekend and one which did not cost us an arm and leg (or indeed a foot). After Gary's employment situation the previous week, our cash flow was very tight, especially the fact that one of Gary's employment agencies did not pay him for the two days that he worked at the end of the week. Not wanting to dip into our savings, we planned to spend as little as possible over the weekend although we didnt want to be hermits either.
We acepted a nice dinner party invitation from Sharlene and her boyfriend, who stayed about an hours train journey south of Sydeny in Sutherland. After work on Friday, Sharlene and myself caught the bus into town and hit the supermarket for some last minute ingredients and some nibbles while Gary dashed back to the flat changed and picked up our overnight bag. Having loaded ourself with goodies and not forgetting the bottles of wine (we would have bought the usual goon, but meeting someone for the first time we didnt want to arrive with a cheap box of wine), we settled in the train,
each reading the Aussie version of the metro.
Excited about what the 'country' had to offer, the train ride was over before we knew it and following a short walk, passing some lovely houses, we arrived at Mark's appartment greeted with a nice chilled glass of wine. We enjoyed a lovely meal which Mark had prepared, over some story telling, wind-ups and laughs. As the night progressed the wine flowed faster and the music began to become louder and more random with a lot of old classics, with an irish jig even making the play list!! Gary was in his element as Mark was playing the music through his laptop which was also connected to the internet and needless to say there was a few extra tracks added to the playlist before the night was out.
Having only ventured to bed around 4am, we arose quite tired (and some of us a bit hungover) around 11am. We loaded Mark's car and headed for the beach at Cronulla (no riots today) for breakfast where we had pancakes and fruit from the BBQ. We lazed about on the grass for some time before heading to Mark's sisters house to feed
the dog. She had a lovely back garden with a great pool, as we did not have our swimming stuff with us we decided to just have a paddle in the pool, however the dog decided to jump out the pool right beside me, give himself a good shake and in the process completely soak me!
Having previously arranged to meet up with Megan and Stew on the Saturday night, we thanked Sharlene and Mark for a great night and headed back into town. We were excited to see Megan and Stew's new flat, and what a flat it was! We were both so jealous of the space that they had not to mention the huge comfy sofa that they had!! We ordered in pizzas and settled on the sofa in front of the TV and watched DVDs for the rest of the night with a few drinks!! A great relaxing night enjoyed by all, and one in which we decided would be happening quite regularly!! hehe!!
On Sunday we met up with Megan and Stew again and headed to Paddy's Market for a look. Memories of South East Asia came rushing back to us, however the price

Others read: "Hubbard is gone, but the con's still on" and distributing leaflets about Scientology's dubious money management. tag was ever so slightly inflated and haggling was out the window!! We did manage to pick up some dirt cheap fruit and veg for the week, saving as a lot as supermarket prices for these items are ridiculous. We headed for a coffee and a seat in the sun for a while before heading to a cheap pub for some cold beers and some cheap grub. A nice relaxing end to the weekend.
On Tuesday we headed to Megan and Stew's for dinner - we offered to make them our trademark Fajitas and Nachos. We enjoyed a nice meal, and had a relaxing night watching Australian TV. To repay us for our delicious meal they invited us to a BBQ at the park on friday after work. We also invited the girls from work, so around half four we headed to the park, heated up the BBQ and got the Goon flowing!! The food was great and the wine was going down a treat, however around half 8 the box ran dry so we packed up and headed to Megan and Stew's flat which was just around the corner, via the bottle shop to restock the Goon.
We had a great laugh and ended up playing an elaborate drinking game, however around 11pm there was a knock on the door from two policemen who had been sent for with regards to a Domestic Violence Dispute!! They were completely fine and realised that there was nothing but good laughs going on in the flat so were happy to leave us to it. It turned out that the police had been called some 2 hours earlier, which would have been when we were just arriving at the flat. We suspect that the neighbours spotted us all heading upstairs and decided that they would spoil the party before it got into full swing!!
Despite the interuption we managed to consume much alcohol and we all had a good laugh. The next day however a number of us were rather worse for ware. Saturday was spent by the fantastic outdoor pool at Victoria Park, before we headed back to Megan and Stews for a another pizza (Pizza Hut is cheap over here) and some movies on Sat night. Poor Stew had suffered all day and although he had arranged to meet us at the pool, never quite made it out
of the flat all day Saturday so a quiet night was had by all.
The following day was the celebration of St Patricks Day, so the sobriety was not going to last...
