Yay! I'm finally in Sydney! I flew out last night from Bali at 11pm after having my last supper with Kim (an English girl who I met on the plane) and hoped I would fall alseep. Of course, I hoped too much and maybe caught 30min-1 hour of sleep out of the 5.5 hours it took to fly. When I landed, I couldn't find my luggage. I spent an hour looking and hoping my luggage would turn up, but nothing. The guys who worked at the airport were so nice and helpful and there it was: my backpack on a different carousel! I was relieved. So, I then took the train to get to my hotel. $16 AUSD. EEK! I was so used to getting $2 taxi rides from Thailand/Cambodia that I began to realize this was not going to be a cheap trip.
I got to the hotel around 10am and went straight to take a nap. I woke up an hour and a half later and got ready to have a walk around. I met an Italian guy, Ulisse, who I befriended and hung out with the whole day. We walked all over, from Hyde Park to Chinatown
to the Sydney Opera House...we did it all! Then we got some sushi for dinner and said our goodbyes. It's a bit chilly here in Sydney, but nothing remotely close to Amsterdam! I also realized there are tons of Asians here...and I mean tons (mostly Chinese)!
It was nice to hang out with someone and I definitely can't complain about my nice, big hotel room! Very modern, trendy and shiek. Oh..and Sydney basically reminds me of London and Los Angeles put together. Although Sydney is expensive, it's a nice place and I definitely wouldn't mind moving here... ;P
Today was a nice day and the weather was lovely. I went around the city again and had visited Bondi Beach. I also decided to head out to the widlife park and the aquarium here in Sydney. I had a wonderful time and spent way too long looking/learning about animals. Had a steak lunch for only $10 (which is one of the cheapest meals out here) and a pint of beer (yes, I finished it!). I wanted dessert and passed by Lindt chocolate cafe and had the most amazing two scoop ice cream. Then walked through the city and was
amazed how great everything looks in the evening. I went by Hyde Park and saw bats flying and eating the fig trees there. Then walked through the red light district and went into a backpackers area. They apparently were giving out free goons (some type of alcoholic drink) Tuesday nights so I had another one. Afterwards, we all headed out to a nightclub for free and stayed there for awhile and I had another pint of beer (so proud of myself)! I met the coolest people tonight and am starting to feel really sad I didn't put in my holiday working visa. In all honesty, I really wouldn't mind working/living here.
Tomorrow I'm off for another adventure in the city....
