The scene was set for an almighty farewell party @ The Albion Hotel. There was more than one reason to party. Adam Ashton was also leaving for the UK, Cass and Renee were off to Hawai’i, Dave Alce’s birthday and of course, I was trying to down 80 beers in one sitting! We got down to the pub at 5pm because we knew that it was going to be a busy night. Dave was on the scene first and so was Amy. She had a housewarming that night but at least came down to say hello. Before too long the people were coming through thick and fast. Robbie showed up for an early visit as well, while Sandy was away at a hens night. At least by coming early we were able to have a bit ... read more

Lately. Hey all! Sorry that it's taken me so long to make a post... I suppose I have about a month and a half to update you on what the heck I've been up to. Here we go: On the 26th (of December), I headed back to Kingsford to join Jessie for some more celebrations. We had plans to go to the horseraces on the 26th, but when I got to Jessie's, I must admit, I didn't think that was going to be happening... Jessie was still feeling the effects of her xmas festivities the day before. However - a bit of time, water, and eventually champagne later, we were on our way to the races! Here, the horseraces are a pretty big deal and an occassion for everyone to dress up. The girls will ... read more

Parramatta, Australia - January 24th - 10:24pm Well today was a little hectic. I woke up to what I thought was an easy day, I was soon mistaken. But I did feel well rested as I got a good night sleep on the couch! It was still hot with the a/c going so I’m glad I wasn’t in my sauna room. So I got up and took it easy like I usually do. Things seemed to be going nicely, not that I really had anything to do but go into Parramatta to check out an apartment at 3pm. So I puttered around the place for a bit until I decided to get ready and walk to the train station. So I got on the bus and headed towards Parramatta, seems good so far, until. I got ... read more

Parramatta, Australia - January 17th - 1:00am I know it’s the 17th here but it was the 16th back home so I just want to send my thoughts to the Corbeil family on the year anniversary of losing a great aunt, sister, and daughter. I love you Aunt Therese. Today started out bright and early for me. I set my alarm for 6:50am and decided to change it till 7:00am after it went off. I was still completely tired when I got up but I didn’t have a choice so I had to get out of the nice warm bed. When I jumped out of bed I was very surprised to feel that it was cold. I jumped into the shower and didn’t want to get out. Because I choose to hit the snooze button and ... read more

Parramatta, Australia - January 15th - 1:30am Today was quiet interesting. I work up to 6 amazing emails in my inbox from people I asked to use as references. Funnily enough I think only one of those people read my blog, but regardless I’d like to thank everyone so much for the lovely emails. It means a lot to have so many people that want to help me out and see me succeed, even if they are jealous of my adventures. Thank-you Cara & Rob, Brian & Leslie, Kathy, Michele, John & Susan, and Mary-Ann. So I finished my application and went through the checklist one more time…not surprising to me (since everything seems to go wrong for me sometimes) but I realized that I needed a Senior First Aid Certificate. I knew I had a ... read more

Hi every one, My husband and myself (we are both in our early 50's ) have planned to take a year or two off and travel the world. Neither of us are seasoned travellers. We live in Sydney and ideally want to travel staying in each continent for a couple of months and visit countries/places by land. We want to go to the less traversed places and visit the cities only for some spectacular sight seeing, not otherwise. Countryside is what we are looking at. Has any one started out of Sydney travelling the world ? Has any one travelled the less trodden paths around the world on a budget travel or home stay sort of accommodation plan ? Do you think a couple could do it within US $ 3000 a month ? I would ... read more

If this were my first overseas trip I don’t think my family would have allowed me to go. Over the past year I have been working in an office in God’s Country (Parramatta) whilst still keeping an eye out on my potential destinations for The Journey Part 4 (JP4).   JP4’s fixtures will see me (want to) go to South East Asia for 3-4 months than across to the Stans’ for around 3 months (Tajikistan, Uzbekistan Kyrgyzstan, etc.) I am also thinking about going to Iran. After that hoping to go to Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine, Belarus maybe Moldova? Who knows… (Finland to get what is rightfully mine?)   These unknown countries (apart from SE Asia) for the extent of time I plan to stay there are not normal for first up journeys. This type of ... read more

Well we got to the beach at Manly, which was a last minute switch from Bondi, as the roads to the Bridge were blocked by an accident. The beach is a cracker, all fine sand (yes Bob it does) and the weather was very warm, but the sea was(bloody) cold. It's surprising how all beach cafe's look the same the world over, only the food changes. Friday night we went out to dinner at the Retired Services Club (the grandest British Legion club I've ever seen) big bars, big dining room, big dinners but small prices. An excellent night but then the thunderstorm!! Thunder and lightening all night with not a little rain. Saturday dawned a little overcast so we had a shopping experience at the local City Centre where, as you can see, it rained ... read more
