The Races
Trying to look classy. Lately.
Hey all! Sorry that it's taken me so long to make a post... I suppose I have about a month and a half to update you on what the heck I've been up to. Here we go:
On the 26th (of December), I headed back to Kingsford to join Jessie for some more celebrations. We had plans to go to the horseraces on the 26th, but when I got to Jessie's, I must admit, I didn't think that was going to be happening... Jessie was still feeling the effects of her xmas festivities the day before. However - a bit of time, water, and eventually champagne later, we were on our way to the races! Here, the horseraces are a pretty big deal and an occassion for everyone to dress up. The girls will go in full-blown dresses, sparkling little stiletos, their finest jewellery and flowers weaved into their hair. It's not AS intense for the men, but they still put in a bit of an extra effort - a collared shirt as opposed to a tee, perhaps. Being a backpacker, I definately did not have stiletos, flowers, or even a nice dress to wear...
Coogee Beach
On NYE day. I worked with what I had. Never doubt the power of a little black dress - even if it is made of cotton & what you usually wear over your bathing suit to the beach! I spiced it up with a nice scarf & some jewellery I had purchased in Byron, and borrowed a pair of Jessie's black heels. Needless to say, as soon as we got to the grassy area in the stadium, those heals came off right away! The races were great fun. It was a beautiful day, delicious sparkling wine and good entertainment. I didn't place any bets, but of course, would always pick a favourite to cheer for - they never won... good thing I didn't place any bets.
The next few days were spent on Jessie's couch watching DVD after DVD - we were prepping ourselves for our next big party night, New Year's Eve! When the day came, we started off hanging out at the beach, soaking up the sun, in the morning. Later on, we headed to her friends' place for a BBQ/pre-party. We celebrated NYE at some park (I forget the name of it) that overlooked all of Sydney (the Opera
NYE
Jess and I House, the bridge, Darling Harbour) - it was the perfect location. The fireworks were the most amazing that I have ever seen... I hear that they were on the news back at home, so I am sure you could agree. After NYE, Jess and I hung out for the next 3 days - we went to the movies, went to the beach, and lounged around. Jessie was planning on heading home to Canada for a visit on the 4th, so I quickly had to decide what my next move was. Bry had just arrived back into Sydney on the 1st. We had plans to meet up again, so it worked that he would pick me up on the 3rd so that I would have a place to stay for when Jessie was off to Canadia (as everyone calls it around here...).
What I got up to for the next 21 days can be summed up into one sentence - I helped Bry with his assignment.... haha. Bry recently got a job with Contiki to work as a Tour Guide in Europe (scheduled to start in mid-Feb). Before doing this, however, he had to complete an assignment and submit it
NYE
I found out that I'm pretty bad @ taking pics at night - it was beautiful though... to them by January 30th. I was originally just going to stay with him for a week or two, to help get it going and spend a bit more time with him, but circumstances changed I guess. A few days before I was planning to get on the move, Bry got an email from Contiki to inform him that his training trip was being pushed back a month. This meant he would have an extra month after the assignment to chill... I decided to stick around. The assignment was MASSIVE - nearly 300 pages of intense research (architecture, artists, history, Countries' socio-economics, etc.). No worries... I DID find time to enjoy myself as well!! Bry's pad is pretty sweet/HUGE - I went for kayak rides in his dam, swam and chilled by his pool, took his car into town for various shops, visited Jessie, went to the movies... etc. January 30th was a sweeet sweeeeet day when Bry clicked the 'send' button to submit his assignment... we were pretty stoked. He was very appreciative of my help & we both know that if I hadn't helped him... it wouldn't have been finished! TIME TO CELEBRATE....
