Today was Jo’s last day in Sydney, so after packing up in the morning we headed over to Surry Hills to have some brunch in a café that we had tried out previously. We all ate enough to see us through the entire day! And we then walked back to the flat. We caught a shuttle bus to the airport… our driver was a little scary, his driving style reminded us of the Tut-tut drivers in Thailand! But we got to the airport safely and Jo checked in with no luggage issues. Jo stocked up on a couple of books to keep her going for her journey before we said our Good-byes and Jo headed through to departures and we caught the train back to Sydney.... read more

When we returned from the airport we walked around town to run a few errands, but on the way we noticed celebrations taking place in China Town. We walked down the main street of China Town to take a look at what was happening. There was a Chinese Dragon dance that was taking place in the street, along with firecrackers being set off outside selected Chinese shops to ward off any evil spirits for the coming year. They were the most impressive firecrackers that either of us had ever seen and although we stood a good 10 metres back from the firecrackers we both had to put our fingers in our ears and we were coughing and covered in dust by the end of it!! Jess had very kindly organised some leaving drinks for us this ... read more

You know when you visit a cretin country there is that one city you have to see, like when going to Italy you have to go and see Rome. In Australia Sydney is that city! There is just so much to do and see and of course you have to take your picture by the iconic Opera house which will no doubt find its way to a frame in you house when you return home. I lived in Sydney for 4 months and was able to experience everything that Sydney and surrounding areas had to offer and figured I would share my experience and things I did and loved. When I first got to Oz I did all the touristy things such as seeing the Opera house walk all along down town it is tourist central ... read more

We left you last after just having settled into Sydney. Our first BBQ on the terrace was a delight, and we have continued this tradition up to now. We have yet to try out the aussie's favourite "shrimps on the barbie" (read in your best aussie accent) but now I've wrote this I might have to head out to the shop later and make it happen. The house has been fun, and the people we are sharing with are now good friends. The only downside of the property is the landlord, who seems to insist on an unreasonable level of cleanliness and makes it his daily job to find a reason to evict every housemate so he can keep our bond. We are planning not to give him a reason!! Tom is still at the bar ... read more

After spending a few days chilling out and relaxing on Coogee Beach, waiting for the Geordie Boys to arrive, we decided to get off our back sides and research about the places we were going to be staying over the christmas period. Checking on trip advisor we were thrilled to see that the hostel we were booked into the next day, had been described as "falling down" and "infested with bed bugs and cockroaches". On this advice, we decided to start looking elsewhere...with only a couple of days until christmas (one of Sydney's busiest times) - we knew we were pushing our luck. Another problem was that Naz and Ric were blissfully unaware as they were flying from Singapore, heading straight for that hostel when they arrived! The only way of stopping them going straight to ... read more

Hey all! Hope you’re enjoying the new year so far…it must be pretty cold and dark in the UK right about now! It’s an actual heat wave here in Brisbane, so so hot it’s not even enjoyable! I’m looking outside at the blue sky and sunshine and really wanting to go out there, but it’s too hot! Anyway…let me tell you about our New Years Eve road trip to Sydney in the trusty Mildred…would she make it?!!! Thursday 29th December 2011 - Brisbane to (somewhere onthe way) Sydney I woke up very dehydrated again! I had the day off so took Drew to work in New Farm and drove Mildred back by myself, was very proud of myself as I didn’t get lost! I spent the day getting ready for our trip to Sydney, Hannah and ... read more

Tonight we went to The Ivy club on George St Sydney with Andy & Jess and their friend Wendy and another friend Jessie; who was visiting from the UK. The club runs across 2 separate buildings – one side of the building has an open air dance-floor and DJ, with a restaurant and bar upstairs and the other side has a roof top swimming pool and bars with a DJ and another restaurant. We decided to check out the roof top pool bar tonight, Will felt like he was back in Ibiza with the chilled out tunes, live singer and drinks by the pool. Will had his party head on that night and the drinks seemed to be going down a little too well so it wasn’t long before Jo and Jess made the move to ... read more

We’ve got into the swing of the festive season recently with some baking and home-made Christmas presents. Jo’s Mum always makes sausage rolls at Christmas, so we decided to follow suit and make some sausage rolls of our own… Will got carried away with 3 varieties of sausage rolls, and Jo made some Christmas cookies. Will also got creative with the Christmas presents this year and spent a day in the kitchen making some chilli oil and garlic &rosemary oil, along with a baked ham… YUM!... read more

Jess saw an ad for Christmas Carols at the Town Hall which is a 5min walk from the apartment so we decided to get into the festive spirit and go along. They were queuing around the block to get in to the hall when we arrived, so it seems we were lucky to get tickets. The building itself is pretty spectacular on the inside with chandeliers and ornate carvings on the ceilings and a huge organ in the concert hall. There were 3 Sydney choirs along with a children’s choir, a harpist and an opera singer. They sang all the classics and while tucked away inside the hall it felt Christmassy for the first time, but the illusion was soon over when we walked out into the warm evening air when we left!... read more
